Re: DPReview: 500D
Both camera bodies all in all are fairly similar.. I'd give more props to Olympus if they could put out some high quality lenses like Canon's L series for prices similar to Canons.. If you look at Olympus' 50-200 2.8-3.5 lens, it is far cheaper than Canon's 70-200 2.8 L IS lens... 400 less, even wi...

DPReview: 500D
Just wanted to throw this out there, as it amused me. In their review of the 500D, DPReview made some interesting statements: In terms of RAW noise: The 500D's sensor produces the highest levels of Chroma noise but can more or less keep up with the Olympus and the 450D in terms of black and g...

Re: Whatcha think about this?
I actually like it. While it may not be a great railroad pic, since it is so close, it adds quite a bit of 'drama' to the shot. The colors look pretty bad but depending on where it was taken and what time if day it was, there might not be much that can be done with it.

Re: Railpictures Submission...
Not that I have any knowledge about that site but I just wanted to add that I liked it. Not only because I love BNSF's paint scheme and colors... that isn't really any part of reason, but because I like how there seems to be a nice optical effect with regard to the cars all being the same and the cu...

Re: Olympus E-30
I know you were responding in jest and we're really not that sensitive. :D As for needing a $6,000.00 camera.... I will never need one either. I shoot with a 30D at the moment and I shoot high school seniors, portraits, and weddings. Eventually I do want to move up to a 5D though. I'm not sure how ...

Re: Olympus E-30
You seem to love to stir the pot here and ruffle everyone's feathers, so yes I suppose we are pretty "sensitive". So I don't keep stirring the pot in my own thread, I'll just leave this be. After talking with your Sofa King Admin, I decided that I would explain my point as it appears to have...

Re: Olympus E-30
Well I'm graduating from a Canon... so that puts Canon in pre-school then... ;). How is that graduating? Why in the world would you leave Canon, who has some of the best glass out there, and one of the biggest (the other being Nikon) selections of bodies, lenses, and accessories? Not to mention a h...

Re: Olympus E-30
Of COURSE they do...because only beginners use Olympus cameras. :P Well I'm graduating from a Canon... so that puts Canon in pre-school then... ;) We also have Nikon coming in mid-January for classes too... JTs equipment would be used at NASA compared to most peoples cameras. I agre...

Re: My Camera Broke, But How?
Which models are you looking at? I'm sure someone here can give you some personal experience (probably far more useful than a ton of lab data).Mike Tabone wrote:I found just reading the first 2 pages at Dpreview was enough before I went duhhhhhhh i dunno boss i dunno. Re: new nikon coolpix for christmas!!
does anbody know much about these cameras and how ell they shoot i just got one and have not tested it out I sold a bunch of them during the last two weeks. They seem to be pretty solid. The only one I thought was less than useful was the... whatever model that is... the one that Ashton advertises ...

Re: My Camera Broke, But How?
Yeah, dpreview is a great place to get awesome information. Only problem I have is that most of the info is so technically specific, it can make one camera seem like crap compared to another; yet, when used by a normal person, you would never tell the difference in your lifetime. For Canon and Nikon...

I can't wait to get my E-30... I'm going to put that up against Zack's 40D and see how it stands up.conrailmike wrote:Not a bad deal, too bad it's an Olympus and not a Canon

Re: My Camera Broke, But How?
To answer Zack's question, the camera is a Canon Powershot SD870IS Digital Elph. I got it for a gift so I have no idea how much it was worth when it was bought to compare to the repair bill. The camera is useless without the screen because it does not have a view-finder. Depending on what brand you...

Re: My Camera Broke, But How?
If it is a point and shoot that you're looking for... The Camera Shop in Muskegon (I work there) will give you $40 bucks as a trade in toward the purchase of a couple select cameras (even if it's totally broken!). If it's a newer SLR I would get it fixed... if it's an older one... well, that's a sor...

Re: Olympus E-30
This camera is a thing of beauty! But...it's an Olympus. :P Hey, what happened to the other screen name you were using? I know Olympus doesn't have all the nation wide "Good 'ole boys" club following that Nikon and Canon have, but they have some significant advantages. Anywho... I didn't post as Ca...

Olympus E-30
This camera is a thing of beauty! The factory reps were in today and they brought two with them. In body image stabilization, 5 frames per second, articulated lcd screen, live view, fastest AF available... just way too awesome... Another month and I should have it, plus this lens ! I'm excited... O...

Tripods
Does anyone have any suggestions on a reasonably priced tripod? By reasonably I mean something I can get for less than $200. I'm kind of tall 6'2" and want something pretty light weight since I do a TON of hiking and want to bring it with me. My lens isn't the lightest thing either so it would have ...
