What kind of scrap was it? Turnings? If it was turnings the scap sits in a pile, generates heat due to compression. Loaded into a railcar in the winter the hot turnings will radiate the heat they picked
up in the pile. Compress something and it heats up.

Got up this morning, took a quick ride to NS Oakwood Yard in Melvindale, MI an I see KCS 1401 has departed under the clok of darkness. Should be in Chicago today. This was the second of two units.

Still at Oakwood sat morning. To go west on CP 25T some time sat.

Spotted west bound Amtrak # 353 today. Power was 85 and 121, Train was a few minutes early in Dearborn, Mich.

Well if the salt loads are in DSSX cars they are coming from Detroit Salt Company located in the Oakwood section of Detroit, Mich. This is a Conrail switch off the Junction Yard running track. Company has 300 covered hoppers, 250 in storage. Uses an ex-Conrail SW1200 to switchcars at loader. KenB
