Re: Plymouth Sub happenings
No, Sunfield was a siding just like any other. The west end was a spring switch so that west bounds could spring out without having to line a switch. Since Sunfield was located in the ABS blocks, there were no power switches. If a meet was going to happen, the dispatcher would issue a train order th...

Re: Plymouth Sub happenings
Current management mentality is "scorched earth". Don't leave anything useful for the next guy. The yard at Grand Ledge has been mostly OOS for years so them removing it doesn't surprise me. Same with Sunfield, I think the last time I actually saw it used was 2011.

Are your files too big? Unless something has changed recently, they don’t like anything bigger than about 1024 pixels wide.

You missed it because I omitted it for some reason! The U3as were built in 1927.

The following is another "Steam Sunday" segment I recently posted on my Michigan Railfans Facebook group. Once again, I'm not an expert, but the following is accurate to the best of my knowledge. Enjoy! For the first Steam Sunday of 2021 (Happy New Year!), we’ll be taking a look at another group of...

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
Donnie, the only time light power is restricted to 30 mph is if it is a single light unit (4 or 6 axles). 2 or more light units, or even 1 unit and 1 car (basically anything 8 axles or more) are cleared to run at track speed.

Even numbers are east-bounds, odd numbers are west-bounds.

D706 east at Fox, 3211 leading with 738 about 2/3 of the way back. The GLC/Lansing set out appears to be on the rear.

Re: Small door on the front of an engine
That's the front door, how one gets into the cab. When you go inside that door, there are a few steps leading up into the main area of the cab. There's also a back door on the engineer's side of the cab. And yes, the bathroom is located in the nose immediately to the right of the front door.

Re: Spring switches, where are they?
The east end of the siding in Grand Ledge was a spring switch until 2015. The spring was starting to wear out and after a train would “spring out” the east end, it often times wouldn’t throw itself quite all the way back over. This would result in bad signals approaching the east end of Grand Ledge ...

Re: CSX Train Location Updates - January 2021
If it were up to me, I would just run a dedicated Grand Rapids-Ann Pere turn 2 or 3 times a week, with nothing but GLC traffic on it. Bob’s thinking is correct that GLC traffic does come both from the west and the east, and GR does build a GLC block for D706 in addition to a Lansing block. I’m not s...
