I can't say that I'm surprised. Once Empire closed last summer, I wondered how long CN Escanaba would hang on.

I had no issue with CN as I stayed on the sidewalk and parked in the RR park lot, as suggested by trainjunkie47. I did have some near misses with cyclists, as the EL Trail uses Broad Street to get through the crossing.

As a side note I'll note a similar area that I know about. Buffalo, NY is home to CP Draw, which is a CSX and NS squeeze point with a set of drawbridges. Deshler has always seemed so laid-back. I'm not sure I've ever seen law enforcement near the park. I do usually see the mailman, who stops to use the porta-potti!

I'm not sure why some Deshler visitors insist on having a roaring fire no matter what, including during 90 degree weather!

And be aware ... the street in front of the Amtrak station will become a two way street on Monday, December 22nd.
