Where do I go from here?
I'm 22, living in Westmont, IL and intend to find a career in the railroad industry as a conductor and work my way up to engineer. I have a High School Diploma since 2013 and have completed an Associates Degree at College of DuPage as of December 16, 2016. I have three applications in since November...

Men at Work (1990 Film)
I just finished watching Men at Work with Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Leslie Hope, Keith David, and etc. I love and enjoy chemistry and railroads. There is a scene with Maxwell Potterdam III (John Getz) that shows the production facility called Chemlife that manufactures paint thinner and waste t...

Re: Railroad Telegraph Poles & Lines
Thank you for the information. I have always been wondering about the "codelines". I have Trainz Simulator 2009: World Builder Edition; building a fictional route and was wondering on how to place the telegraph lines. Your information helps me very much. Merry Christmas, Minernut.

Railroad Telegraph Poles & Lines
I have seen multiple pictures and have been wondering for years. Along railroad lines there are/used to be telegraph poles carrying like 15-20 wires. My questions are: (1)how do the telegraph lines work regarding the railroad signals that change color to allow a train to proceed, slow or stop, (2) W...

Chicago Union Station Locomotive
I recently looked on google earth looking for a certain locomotive. I used to go into street view on S Lumber Street that goes around Union Station before google took it out. :x The locomotive is parked on a small track that parallels S Lumber Street that is directly Northwest of Continental Paper G...

Plastic production
Plastic is starting to grow in demand as I see so many spurs lead to plastic industries. For example ethylene is used to produce polyethylene. Either from a petroleum refinery or Sabic Innovative Plastics in Evansville, Indiana; produce the gas that is polymerized to produce the plastic. My question...

UTLX Terra
I have a train simulator called Trainz 2009: World Builder Edition. Not too long ago I downloaded a new 23,000 gal tank pack from Jointedrail. This certain tanker came up and I'm wondering what company this is? http://wc2scale.org/zenphoto/cache/nonwc-railcars/tank-cars/utlx-300127-terra-40ft-white-...

Re: Roadrailers
What was the main reason Roadrailers were created? I have seen them in a picture. I just don't consider it a stable way to move truck trailers, because I think that a trailer could get ripped apart during transport.

Erie-Lackawanna Line to Indianapolis, Indiana
http://www.scrantonstation.com/scrantonlayout/design/images/1967%20EL%20System%20Map-Large.gif The Erie Lackawanna map of 1967. The line from Hamilton, Ohio to Indianapolis, Indiana stands out to me. On the USGS maps, this was the Baltimore and Ohio railroad. Did the Erie Lackawanna buy this line o...

GE and EMD Locomotive Leasing
On railroad picture archives, Searching EMDX pulls up all EMD locomotives. Searching GECX pulls up only 78% of GE Locomotives while the remaining percentage is EMD, FM and ALCO. I just find this interesting because EMD only has EMD's but GE does not contain 100% of their own locomotive manufacture. ...

Re: Quarries and above ground mining
The reason I asked is because I was looking at a 2005 Wisconsin Railroad Map as a PDF. As always I notice dead ends and wonder what keeps those lines active. One line in particular was a Canada National ex Chicago and Northwestern Line from Manitowoc, WI to Rockwood, WI. In Rockwood, Wisconsin, ther...

Quarries and above ground mining
After enough time looking on Google Earth and maps I start to notice big white spot's that are quarries or some type of above ground mining. I have also noticed that some quarries transport their materials by covered hopper or open hoppers. So, which is the best rolling stock to transport minerals a...

Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad in Rockford, IL
I'm looking at a USGS map of Rochelle, IL and notice that Burlington Northern runs north from Flagg Center, IL to Rockford, IL along the Milwaukee Road. I then find a CB&Q map on the internet proving that right. Why did the CB&Q - BN(1970) run from Flagg Center,IL to Rockford, IL? What was in Rockfo...

The strange thing is when the BNSF worker replaced the relay switch, the lights came back on with the appropriate signal colors red and yellow. It seams that the signals were operating, but with no electricity going to the signal lamps. The hub center in Texas was supping the electronic that changes...

Yesterday, Sunday October, 26 was an interesting day for me. Working for a party at the Westmont Park District around 4:30pm in the town of Westmont, IL 60559 the power went out. Luckily my boss was there to help me out as his computer went down too. 20 to 30 minutes later the power went back on. Af...

Baltimore and Eastern Railroad
In the past couple of days I have been interested in the Maryland and Delaware RR. My major search has led me to the peninsula of Maryland and lower half of Delaware. A railroad by the name of Baltimore and Eastern Railroad started to make me wonder. I have found a website http://www.r2parks.net/B&E...
