Re: Durand Memorial Railroad Park

Any money that could be raised for this project should instead go to repairs and long-term upkeep of the depot-- perhaps starting an endowment. IF the depot is truly put on long-term sound financial condition, then maybe the park could be get built. I don't want to see the building, maintenance and...

If the new diamond is only good for 40 on CN then why do it. I believe its 40 now on all diamonds and turnouts. Back when it was double track before 1987 it was good for 55 or 60 mph. But, I don't see any trains doing this speed these days so I don't know why they would do it anyways. Hope this hel...

Re: My Layout - Ludington Northern Railway

If you do use sand, you should probably use a 'sand' (or tan-ish) paint color underneath. Use the sand to give the scenery texture, but don't use too much sand. And when you do glue down the sand, use a lot of glue to hold it in place. Before you run any trains, vacuum the excess, and clean your tr...

Re: Engine fire at Kent City

Okay now it's all making sense to me lol. I never realized there were so many do's and don'ts with dynamic vs. air braking until now. Also makes sense to lower track speed to save on fuel,at least for a shortline. Still sucks that a mechanic's error in fixing dynamic brakes ruined a good unit until...

Re: Steam engine on a flat car on CN

My nephew says that the Wasatch Facebook page reports it through Marcellus about 4 hours ago or so. Looks like any CN insiders here, if we have any, have once again kept the info on the downlow. Did it occur to you that the crews may not know anything about it until after its gone either? My contac...

That has less to do with no cars and more to do with the customer not getting switched

It also depends on who you talk to. Most railroad employees will call all railfans, Foamers.

Re: Strange vehicle on tracks

Thats a Brandt truck. You have to have a CDL for that. The point was to not need an engine and full train crew to do the small track work projects that do require actual RR cars

I've tried to hold my tongue, but, I think this rumor started with the 1 each way NS train that is running from South Bend to Kirk Yard via the South Bend and Matteson Subs.

Don, as far as I know the Inter-plant switcher does all the switching, NS and CN only drop off and pick up cars

1/8th S4

Hi all, just thought I'd share a couple pictures of my 1.5" scale ALCo S4. Its going to be painted for Marquette Ontonagon & Western. I still have to some final detailing on it before I can paint it. I'll post some more pictures tomorrow after it gets some use at the Mid Michigan Railroad Club. http...
