A classmate posted these from a very old newspaper article about the March 1910 derailment near the town I grew up in when my grandparents were small children. Thought you might find them worth seeing.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
http://www.toledoblade.com/local/2015/07/21/Fiery-crash-kills-1-injures-3-in-Henry-County.html No customers east of the Napoleon industrial park that I am aware of, so they must have been either retrieving or dropping off storage cars. There were about a dozen tank cars east of the U.S. 24 crossing...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Along those lines, Eisenhower traveled on the line once during his time in office to open the Library at Defiance College. My understanding is that the train was interchanged from the B&O at Defiance, and I believe that Ike rode the train to Toledo where he caught a flight back to DC. You made my c...

Any idea where they will be installing these along the line? Have they been doing total replacement or selective?MagnumForce wrote:Bunch of new ties stacked to put in this spring

Re: Electrification
Seems how you can power a yard slug off a regular Locomotive why couldn't you have something like a Catenary slug that would draw power when in the electrified portions of the track that would send its power to the Diesel Locomotives traction motors? It wouldn't need to be a large unit, just big eno...

Electrification
I am on a not generally railroad related board where transportation is a major topic of conversation and recently we have been arguing the pro/con of electrification of freight railroads across the USA/Canada. Seems how I am also a member here I thought I would solicit the opinions of your who are m...

Re: Toledo CUS track rationalization
I'd be the last person to defend Amtrak, but Toledo is the most heavily used station in Ohio - even with the crappy scheduling. If they ever got over their "endpoint mentality" and had a daylight train, those numbers would only grow. I have to agree, it seems as if the business model they use is ba...

Re: Toledo CUS track rationalization
I have only used Amtrak out of Toledo twice in August 2009 October 2013. The station is a bit run down and the schedule is horrible, hence part of the reason traffic is so poor. Toledo is kind of the afterthought between Chicago and Pittsburgh, my trip last year the train was delayed 95 minutes on a...

Re: TLEW News?
Has any kind of agreement been reached between the two groups? Or is this another case of a rail dying from bad management and poor decision making?

Re: TLEW News?
Is anyone still coming out to volunteer or did the whole of TLEW fold up shop? I went out one week to see about volunteering but nobody was around when I was there so I left. As a history nut I was eager to help, but after calling both contact numbers I had and getting no answer on one and no respon...

Steam and hot water coming off the old engines did a fair job of cooking weeds when they were young and tender sprouts as well.

Re: Monroe Super Walmart rail question
I have 53' containers out of Washington state for Dayton, OH, Louisville, KY, and Brighton, MI that I truck from Chicago. Better price and transit. The moment a shipment becomes a joint line routing, you have to study all the cost options. How high can Diesel fuel prices go before things switch aro...

Monroe Super Walmart rail question
In Monroe the Super Walmart was built on the site of the former Wix lumber contractor supply store that was served by a rail spur for bulk shipments. Does Walmart still use the rail spur to ship in freight?

Re: Chasing the ND&W, vanwerty style!
Nice video! I think I can hear the wooden bridge creaking when the train is crossing, I wonder if it needs an upgrade as badly as the rest of the tracks do? How much difference does it make for a Class III to be using 80# rail like MAW/ND&W vs 90# like TLEW? I grew up just down the road from a sidin...

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Beginning
Is there any substantial part of the track where they can go 10 mph without risking derailment? How are the repairs going, is it still a day in and day out effort or did they slow down once the very worst of the track was fixed?

Re: TLEW News?
Does the ROW extend all the way from Grand Rapids to the Henry County Line? If they have a broken culvert at Ludwig road and have to upgrade the ties on the bridge to pass inspection it is no wonder they are hurting! Looks like the bulk of their rolling stock is stuck in Grand Rapids and inaccessible.
