Re: Where Is It?
Here is a recent arial photo, in Michigan. The grade heading off in the 10:30 direction was once a busy line that no longer has rails on it. Extra points if you can tell me what kind of plane I was in.

Re: Where Is It?
Michael is right. This truck was stolen from the parking lot at the beer tent in Coopersville during the sumerfest. From the marks on the ties, rails and ballast, it looks like they drove onto the tracks at 32nd Ave, then continued East down the tracks until coming to the 24th Ave Bridge. They bounc...

Re: C&M Running Freight
There was also a spur on the east side of Fruitridge Ave. I don't remember what it served, but it was long out of service. I believe it was completely removed when the bike trail went in. St Marys Cement (current interchange between C&M and GRE) recieved cars at one point. The track arrangement at M...

I don't know where that is, but that is a lot of cool stuff in that picture. That searchlight mast has got to be almost 40ft tall! All those switch lamps. I love pictures like this.

Re: The Famous Flying Diesel Corp.
I just read about this recently. It seems there was a young railfan pulled out of school and questioned by the authorities because he spent so much time around the facilities, and new most of the local crews. It was his knowledge of the crews and operation that got him off the hook.

I wonder-- are those the original aprons, that were used in the C&O days to load railcars-- even though they have not taken trains across in years. Where do you get them, or make them, as that is not a standard thing to have laying around? I don't believe the apron is original. I have pictures of t...

Re: Top 5 Michigan Rail Lines that should've been left in place
I think the first listed scenario could have seriously altered how railroading is done in west Michigan. I know that through Grand Haven and Spring Lake Twp there were multiple lumber yards that were served, and Johnston Boiler plus fertilizer shipments in Ferrysburg. CSX killed it all in one swoop ...

Adelaide Point development at end of Western Ave in Muskegon.
admin edit: correct. They chomped at the bit when the line was released to the city and paved over what they could.

Re: Where Is It?
It is Berry Junction. This type of switch stand was unique to the Pere Marquette, in Michigan, and used a semaphore instead of a rotating target in its original configuration. They were manufactured by US Wind Engine & Pump Co, a company that was known more for well pumps, windmills and related comp...

In Michigan. If you know the significance of these particular switch stands, it narrows it down to at least the RR. This one was recently replaced after probably 120 years of service.

Re: $424K grant approved for Manistee rail relocation project
Was there ever a connection on the southern end of the lake? Looking at arial photos, it sure doesn't look like there ever was, unless the old grade was the present Filer City/Huer Hill Rd. I've always been curious why the rail was routed the way it is up there.
