Re: CSX Montague Subdivision History
I thought I remember reading that, way back, the tracks went all the way to the south side of Pentwater. I know there was a few fruit plants, lumber yards and elevators along the way. As far as Hooker goes, I did some research a few years ago on that site. Holy Sh!$. That was a hell of a mess. You k...

Re: Where Is It?
Correct. Approximately one rail length from where I stood is two short sections of rail that replaced the GTW diamond. The discoloration in the grass is where the diamond was.

Looking west down the Sappi branch, but where. There is a hint in the middle of the picture. It is far easier to see in person and for a number of years this spot was very busy.railrod1949 wrote:This looking east along the Michigan Shore RR spur to the former Sappi Paper plant in Muskegon.EWRice wrote:In Michigan

What make/model signal is that? The small U bolts make me think it's GRS.

Re: Hilltop Rd. in St. Joseph to Close Temporarily.
That’s great news! Hilltop is a rough crossing. Given that Hilltop is scheduled, I hope that means they will do Glenlord next. I drive Glenlord every day and it is really bad. The worst part is that some people cross the tracks at 2 mph and others at 40, so if you’re making a left off of N. Rooseve...

Re: CSX / MIGN / Marquette / Grand Elk - GR Northside
GTW abandoned the muskegon-greenville line in 1947 when PRR became a partner in the ferry operation. Part of this deal was trackage rights on the PRR line that connected to the GH-GR line at penn jct. This made the former GTW line redundant. I believe the last train from Muskegon was in '88 or '89. ...

In the vacuum of space, none of the control surfaces, or even the wings or tail, will even work.

Great video! Can't wait for more. A couple observations: did I see box car with MMRR markings on it? Also, after so many years, it amazes me that that unit still has the same horn and, except for one time I saw it in Grand Haven, every engineer seems to blow that horn the same way.

Michigan Shore is stopped north of the swing bridge waiting for the conductor to open the bridge. Should be heading towards Muskegon in a few minutes. 2025, 2019 and the usual mix of cars.

Caught up to them in the Heights. They look like brand new gons. Who is shipping ash, the BC Cobb remains?
I counted 76 cars after looking back at my video. The last "big one" a few years ago was something like 54 cars.

Re: Michigan shortline update: March 2020
What I believe rivals the longest train I have ever seen on Michigan Shore is on its way between Ferrysburg and Muskegon. The normal consist was sandwiched between what must be storage gondolas. The power was out of sight north of 3rd st in Ferrysburg and the last car was just crossing Coho dr in Gr...

I will take the LNG cars over the 50+ year old petrol pipeline burried 200yds from my house. Every year Marathon sends me a booklet on how to watch for issues around the pipeline.
