Re: Problems with a CSX Crossing in Holland.

The crossing is getting rough, but it is no worse than US31 in the same area.

Re: Railroad crossing gates in someone's backyard!

I have a few in my yard, but I know a guy in IN that probably has 12-14 steam era signals in his yard (full height, too) and a guy in OH that has a half dozen, plus a caboose and a complete depot.

Re: Throwback Thursday: Michigan Shore Railroad

I miss hearing the horn on 2057. Many nights I would lay in bed and hear it echo up Spring Lake. There is something unique about that horn, or valve or maybe just the way it is plumbed to the tank.

In regards to the SD50, what was the bigger issue; asking too much of the 645 prime mover or the new electrical systems?

Cdressel,
I have a series of 3 photos, including that one, but none showing the signals for the bridge.

GTW Spring Lake bridge

I am trying to track down photos of the signals located on either side of the GTW swing bridge, over Spring Lake channel, while in service. The East side signal is on display in front of PM 1223 in Grand Haven but I really would like pictures in service. Either the original configuration or the cobl...

Re: CSX Montague Subdivision History

I thought I remember reading that, way back, the tracks went all the way to the south side of Pentwater. I know there was a few fruit plants, lumber yards and elevators along the way. As far as Hooker goes, I did some research a few years ago on that site. Holy Sh!$. That was a hell of a mess. You k...

Re: Where Is It?

Correct. Approximately one rail length from where I stood is two short sections of rail that replaced the GTW diamond. The discoloration in the grass is where the diamond was.

Looking west down the Sappi branch, but where. There is a hint in the middle of the picture. It is far easier to see in person and for a number of years this spot was very busy.

What make/model signal is that? The small U bolts make me think it's GRS.

Re: Hilltop Rd. in St. Joseph to Close Temporarily.

That’s great news! Hilltop is a rough crossing. Given that Hilltop is scheduled, I hope that means they will do Glenlord next. I drive Glenlord every day and it is really bad. The worst part is that some people cross the tracks at 2 mph and others at 40, so if you’re making a left off of N. Rooseve...

Re: CSX / MIGN / Marquette / Grand Elk - GR Northside

GTW abandoned the muskegon-greenville line in 1947 when PRR became a partner in the ferry operation. Part of this deal was trackage rights on the PRR line that connected to the GH-GR line at penn jct. This made the former GTW line redundant. I believe the last train from Muskegon was in '88 or '89. ...
