Re: CSX Videos produced in the 1980s
I uploaded a video of the Kroger local near the airport in Grand Rapids Michigan today. It includes an Eastern coal train with two GP38s, a GP30, and a six axle GE. The clip ends with the local delivering five coal loads to the Stealcase complex near 52nd and Broadmore. CSX Kroger Local in 1991 nea...

Re: Jackson, MI Q&A
So generally what time do they go down to Omnisource? I'm seeing them pass my shop off South St. around 3:30 in the afternoon and coming back an hour or so later. I would guess they leave the yard 1:30-2. Not sure if they work Dawn Foods at the same time since I have not seen them take any covered ...

Thank you NS3322. You're doing a nice job with the Wiki. I update it too but usually post at the Website Threads before doing so to confirm the information. The Wiki is very good but doesn't go into how many cars each customer ships. That's what I was hoping to learn from Nick. All that info is on ...

Re: ADBF/JAIL Changes Made Under New Ownership
I asked in the Adrian and Blissfield railroad Facebook group but didnt get a response. I noticed on Google Maps there appears to be a new transload operation at Saginaw Yard now. Where the old yard offices were located, there looks like two propane tanks as well as a trio of tank car loading racks. ...

Re: ADBF/JAIL Changes Made Under New Ownership
Caledonia Farmer's gets potash and tanks pretty frequently at their new spur between Lake Odessa and Woodbury. I haven't seen any cars go to the elevator in Lake O proper in close to 10 years now. I figured but threw that out there anyway. I'm also assuming they're done with the cotton seed translo...

Re: What Railroad Do You Model.......
Currently working on a larger layout, modeling the Conrail Lansing Secondary from Jackson to Lansing. I'm setting it between 1990-1995. I have been working on tons of custom structures including the Jackson station and much of the GM plants around Lansing. Only focusing on the larger customers but i...

Re: ADBF/JAIL Changes Made Under New Ownership
Couple updates I didn't see listed: The demo work on the downtown Mason elevator is almost complete. There is another elevator facility in Mason north of downtown adjacent to the tracks but I don't think it was ever rail served and that one is still standing. Also Eaton Farm Bureau has been bought u...

Re: Grand Rapids Southeastern
I feel like Bradford White could have a part in this too. Not necessarily shipping out finished product, but when I worked there, they received lots of truckloads of steel coils and could potentially have tank cars for the water heater insulation. Also had lots of stamping scrap hauled out of there....

Jackson, early 90s
I was curious, does anyone have any pics of the Jackson area, from the late 1980s up to the end of the Conrail era basically? More specifically, lineside details, ROW, signage, facilities, etc. Looking for reference pictures for my layout construction. Thank you

East Jordan was making brake drums for Webb Wheel and loaded just east of the track where they recieved pig iron ingots for their foundry. They also may have loaded fire plugs and other sundry items they made at the same spot as the brake drums. 16 1/2 by 7 semi trailer brake drums. Big uns! Most o...

Re: D708, 1992?
I suppose I should know the answer, but I'm afraid I don't remember. I spent a lot more time east of Lansing than west. The only thing that comes to mind is East Jordan Iron works in Sunfield. Is that the same as P&W? Looks like they dropped off 4 of the CSX single door boxes and picked up a differ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo5Zf2RQJkg Another fantastic Dan Cluley video, towards the end of the video, 708 is shown to be leaving Lake O with several boxcars behind the caboose then again in Mulliken with those cars now absent in the consist. Who was receiving boxcars between Lake O and Mull...

Re: DSSX Salt Hopper question
Sorry to bring up an old post but my question is appropriate to the topic. I'm looking to add some Michigan region cars into my model railroad roster for my layout. Does anyone know approximately when Detroit Salt started acquiring their own hopper fleet? I cant find any pics before the early 2000s ...
