Jackson, early 90s
I was curious, does anyone have any pics of the Jackson area, from the late 1980s up to the end of the Conrail era basically? More specifically, lineside details, ROW, signage, facilities, etc. Looking for reference pictures for my layout construction. Thank you

Re: D708, 1992?
East Jordan was making brake drums for Webb Wheel and loaded just east of the track where they recieved pig iron ingots for their foundry. They also may have loaded fire plugs and other sundry items they made at the same spot as the brake drums. 16 1/2 by 7 semi trailer brake drums. Big uns! Most o...

Re: D708, 1992?
I suppose I should know the answer, but I'm afraid I don't remember. I spent a lot more time east of Lansing than west. The only thing that comes to mind is East Jordan Iron works in Sunfield. Is that the same as P&W? Looks like they dropped off 4 of the CSX single door boxes and picked up a differ...

D708, 1992?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jo5Zf2RQJkg Another fantastic Dan Cluley video, towards the end of the video, 708 is shown to be leaving Lake O with several boxcars behind the caboose then again in Mulliken with those cars now absent in the consist. Who was receiving boxcars between Lake O and Mull...

I'm not surprised the private cars are gone. Seems like there were one or two news stories about them being hit by graffiti vandels

Re: DSSX Salt Hopper question
Sorry to bring up an old post but my question is appropriate to the topic. I'm looking to add some Michigan region cars into my model railroad roster for my layout. Does anyone know approximately when Detroit Salt started acquiring their own hopper fleet? I cant find any pics before the early 2000s ...

Minneapolis, MN?
I'm in Minneapolis the next couple weeks doing a training class for my job and I have this weekend free and want to do some railfanning. Minnesota Commercial is definitely on my list but anyone have any good spots to shoot them or any other spots at all that would be worth checking out?

Re: Lowell Street Trackage???
AT one time the spur in question served the headstone/monument shop. I remember that being in place years ago. The piece left of the spur was used to unload plastic beads for Attwood. Wonder where that business went? Was in use when CSX had it up until maybe 10/15 years ago... There was also a coup...

Re: Conrail Grand Rapids 1990s
Conrail only very briefly operated beyond Kzoo and 44th, selling the line off to the state not long after Conrail's inception. It became the Kent Barry & Eaton and didn't last too long. What about after that? I thought they once again regained the line after the KBEC folded. Didn't trackage to Cale...

Here is a different take on a Plymouth/Detroit plan. It is an adaptation of a plan in Trainplayer. Still working out an operating Scheme. http://railroadfan.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10457/Detroit_Sub_28129.jpg Both plans look good and look like theyd be fun to run, but I like the first better wi...

Just 4 Fun hobbies is near the Frandor mall between Lansing & East Lansing. They had some train stuff in their old location. I have not been in since they moved a few months ago, so I don't know what they carry currently. G&G Trains is probably the best store in the area. They are in the country ne...

Re: CSX-Lansing to GR-1990s (Doktor No?)
I sorta remember the mini unit trains to Sunfield. I remember seeing cars filling the two tracks behind downtown. Never remember seeing the little yellow Alco though. Are these the tracks you speak of? These haven't been used since the 90s? http://www.railpictures.net/images/d1/7/4/1/8741.120756960...
