Moraine/West Carrollton Question
Hope everyone is staying safe out there. I am doing some research on the NS Dayton District and have some questions I'm hoping you all might be able to answer. 1.) What's the current status of the NS Moraine Yard? I heard rumblings that it was closed now and the last time I drove by it looked bone e...

Re: G&W to Purchase Ohi-Rail
The line has zero customers other than car storage. Fracking sand transload went away, the line is just far enough out of the fracking area the extra distance killed the business. Other than access to Apex, which they already had, really doesn't make sense G&W bought the company. The 2 GP38-2 were ...

Re: G&W to Purchase Ohi-Rail
Unfortunately the most recent Google Imagery doesn't show the new operation in Derwent, but the imagery base map on the ORDC web map does albeit a little more grainy. I followed the Ohi-Rail line by satellite image and saw just a couple customers in Minerva. Does anyone know if they service any othe...

Re: G&W to Purchase Ohi-Rail
According to ORDC's web map, the line from Byseville to Derwent is owned by a "Zemba Bros Rail Services". According to their website, Zemba is an earth moving company based out of Zanseville. It looks like they have a decent sized earth material transload out of Derwent on the eastern side of the li...

Re: Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad
Parent company owns Bucyrus Railcar which acquired the former T&OC/NYC shop facility in Bucyrus Ohio a few years ago. I believe there was an article in TRAINS regarding that operation and the family behind it. Apparently they have decided to expand into shortline operation. Hopefully they will do w...

G&W to Purchase Ohi-Rail
An STB filing was forward to me at work yesterday saying G&W (acting through the Mahoning Valley Railway) was in the process of purchasing Ohi-Rail Corp. Anyone have any other info on any intent or future plans with the line? I haven't been paying much attention to Ohio's rail scene in a while so I'...

Re: New Ohio Online Rail Map
Looks like ORDC got a new website. If anyone is having issues finding out where the interactive map application went, here are a couple links. https://rail.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/ordc/rail-in-ohio/resources/01-printed-rail-map-request You can access the application from the Ohio Rail Map section of...

Re: New Ohio Online Rail Map
Also, looking at the Peavine. I see the ownership changes at Jaybird Rd on the east end of the line. How much of the east end is still in operation coming out from the yard in Portsmouth? I was under the impression the major problem with the line is the bridge over the scioto river. Is that correct...

New Ohio Online Rail Map
Not sure when this was posted or if everyone was already aware of it, but ORDC released an interactive online rail map to their web page. Figured I would share it here. Here is a link to their page: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/divisions/rail/Pages/default.aspx The map is linked under "Ohio Rail Lines...

Re: CP to Bluegrass Farms
Hey all! Haven't posted on here in what seems like forever, surprised I still knew my login info! But I figured I'd offer my insight on the topic. Firstly, the bluegrass farms facility specializes in many different forms of soy bean distribution, but the interest in intermodal comes from a neat and ...

South Shore Extension
I know this a little late, but the Northwest Indiana RDA approved $8 Million a year for South Shore Extension to Dyer. Environmental studies will be done soon and things will go on from then. It finally looks like this will be getting done. NICTD already owns the old Monon from state line to Dyer (C...

Re: IORY South End Part Five
At first I thought it was a paintball course, but what made me think it was a training facility is the tower building in the upper left corner. I would assume this would be so the training officers could view how things were going? The layout of all the different buildings are also interesting. They...

Re: IORY South End Part Five
Ok so this is severely off topic... but I was looking at aerial photos of modern day Cold Springs junction on Google earth, and does anyone else notice what looks like to be an Urban Warfare/SWAT training facility just southwest of the junction? It is directly south of the east end of the NS Erie Si...

Re: Ohio rail business news
More word on the Vandalia spur. SB Specialty Metals has recently moved in to the old Emery Air Freight building and has established what they call their "master distribution center". They have stated that they wish to tap in to the new spur when it is built. The city courted SB Metals quite hard, an...

Re: Ohio rail business news
Former Delphi spur by Dayton International is getting more hype. A full article was in the Dayton Daily on the local front page and local radio has covered it. It seems the big push is to get the spur to reach the new Union, OH land that has been developed for a massive distribution facility. The la...

Re: Ohio rail business news
Another feasibility study is underway in bringing the old Delphi Spur back into the Dayton International Airport. Still have no idea what they want to do if they get it there, but the city keeps spending the money to do studies on it.
