Hello everyone,

My dad, another person, and I are launching a railcam network for locations around North America starting with Michigan and the Midwest, and we are looking for hosts that have the tracks visible from their locations! !
Sounds like a good idea!

Good luck, Carleton is so incredibly dead that you’ll be looking at tracks and signals for hours.
Definitely sounds like something he should be worried about.

Re: Shortline Train Location Heads Up-December 2023

From my workplace in Grandville off of 44th, I can hear Grand Elk blowing down around 68th/76th. Not sure which direction they are going.

2:23pm edit: horns are getting louder. Now sounds like maybe 54th they are crossing. NB it is.

Just heard a Grand Elk horn a few minutes ago. Possibly heading back south now.

Re: B22

So sometime soon I would like to head to Albion to "railfan" because I am trying to build up my patience level when railfanning but I would like to know does B22 terminate on the West or East end of Albion? What will being in Albion specifically do for your patience level compared to anywhere else?

Re: ADBF/JAIL Changes Made Under New Ownership

Define what "new" means? If you're looking at having some fort of road switcher made at one of the major manufacturers, good luck. You'll end up spending over a million on something unreliable and impossible to maintain due to the ridiculous EPA regulations that are strangling the industry. If you ...

Grand Elk was south through Byron Center approx 3:30pm, WAMX 4190 and WAMX 4189, both LHF, with about 20 cars.
I guess the two units I saw moving about were just some extra power in the yard? Hmm...

12:15 NB GDLK 303 mp81 Wayland. WAMX 4189 and WAMX 4190 with 35 cars. Ditto on all counts, north through Byron Center at 12:54pm. Both locos facing north, might have a LHF 4190 leading the train south then. Just drove by Hughart and saw two units switching. One was facing south and the other north.

Re: Amtrak 355 accident-New Buffalo

Three miles is close enough. It would be interesting to hear the 911 tapes of the initial call giving the location of the incident - "where the railroad tracks cross Lakeside Road near the highway". Highway 12 or old Highway 12 (Red Arrow)? I can see where a location could be confused. Even "south ...

Well even if they said Three Rivers that would've been an incorrect town anyways. It was west of Three Oaks.
Thanks for catching that. Fixed. That's what I get for posting while trying to push one out while on the toilet.

My point still stands though.

I didn't realize the rear unit was sitting on the siding at Three Oaks, but I did see the lead unit and cars set aside along US 12 yesterday. DSC_0388.JPG DSC_0383.JPG Sounds like a data base was down in the 911 system allowing them to enter cross streets, and the 911 dispatcher called CSX by mista...
