Re: CN CEO leaving. The sharks are circling
CN was an earnings miss for three straight quarters before this latest quarter, and their operating ratio has been off even prior to the pandemic. The failure of the KCS merger was icing on the cake. The institutional investors were not happy. Ruest thought for sure that CP would counter with a high...

Re: Southern and Central Indiana Railfanning
If there is a good access point to Avon Yard, I never found it. There are places where you can view nearby, but not close to the yard. The Big Four line is intersected by the line from Hamilton, Ohio, on the east side of downtown. The Louisville line runs south, right before the station, on the east...

Re: Southern and Central Indiana Railfanning
Muncie is well worth a stop over. There is a shop on the southeast corner of Walnut Street and the railroad crossing, just south of the center of town, which is very tolerant of railfans, provided you do not block their access going through, and you stay close to Walnut Street. From that location, y...

Can someone explain for me why CN cares if the train is shorter than X number of axles?

Re: Elkhart and NYC Museum trip 9-16-2021
IBut I'm not super impressed by how they blazed a trail of new concrete sidewalks across the original brick platform, which is as old as the 1900-built station. Even less impressive is the weed-filled zone between the old and new platforms, which apparently local politics is keeping looking like a ...

Re: Fostoria Park site work
Glad to see something going into Fostoria. The railfans can only bring so many dollars into town, and most of that dries up when the weather gets cold.

Re: Intermodal delays in Chicago
Drop and Hook Chicago Style is a hell of a way to make a living with what they're willing to pay for it. NS 59th Street is in the middle of a war zone, as is Corwith. BNSF Cicero is a bit better, but can be a virtual PITA to get in and out. UP Dolton isn't bad though. And Global I is just a pain to ...

Re: Butler Indiana diamond NS
I’ve typically parked at the corner of Railroad and Beech Streets. The first crossing north, west and east of the diamonds are fair game. Erie St may or may not be a public road, and the guy who lives right next to the crossing south of the Diamond has been known to shew railfans away while claimin...

Re: CP to Buy KCS
it still has to be approved by the STB! Will CN really keep it a separate railroad? CN will have to decide which line, theirs, or the KCS line, that they plan on selling off, between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. There should be little trouble spinning either line off to another railroad. But I can'...

Go to Kentucky High Bridge, on the NS Rathole. Also LaGrange, which has CSX street running for five blocks. Also Lambs Ferry Tunnel in Ryland Heights, near Covington and Cincinnati Also Covington Tunnel, on the south end of Covington, near where routes 16 and 17 split. Latonia, just south of Covingt...

Re: Great Lakes Central Passenger TC
The trains between San Yard and Durand run 10 mph tops and rock all over the place now. There is still the matter of a reversing move at Selma Yard in Cadillac. The line from Walton Junction to TC got work recently, but it still isn't better than Class 2. These are just a few of the issues right off...

Does the station have an asbestos issue? It could be that CSX has been kicking the can down the road on tearing it down, because they didn't want to pay to deal with asbestos mitigation?

I know Vickers doesn't even approach 140 a day, not even 100 a day. That said, it's rarely boring. Maybe someone on this board can win the lottery, then buy that chunk of farmland that borders the junction, then turn it into another railfan park?
