Re: 2 injured in car/train crash
Freakin moron. I've been down that road. Even in the summer, bone dry, it isn't great traction. Add to that you have to be on top of the crossing to see a train. She's lucky her and her passenger didn't become a stain.

Re: Allen Road will get a grade separation after all
Do the trains ever come to a stop for significant periods of time crossing Fort Street, or do they just roll slowly across? I've seen several trains there, and all were going 15-20 mph. That isn't the case many times at the other crossings.

At least access for heavy equipment won't be an issue for that particular job, according to the photo.

Re: Future of Grand Blanc and Wixom yards
I'm certain that just about every bit of spare track us going to be utilized for car storage, if it hasn't already. It's not like there is any real hope of a traffic surge on that line developing from massive amounts of new business.

Re: Fostoria signal question
I could be wrong, but I don't think anything changed. I think it was just a case of the first train hitting the next two blocks before the second train arrived? The next block going westbound is a set of crossovers. Possibly the first train took the crossover, or the second train was lined to take t...

Re: Huron Eastern Railway
Don't think it would impact the operations of CN very much. Clearly going straight from Sudbury to the Soo would be a far shorter distance, but would it justify keeping the line open for the few cars that would venture across there? Even if CN bought the line and refurbished it, you're not going to ...

Re: Railfanning UP?
A post in Train Orders said approximately 20 UP per day, which I think is high. My guess is closer to 14. It also says 10 on CN, and 6 Amtrak trains. That number is close, IMHO Now that the Eastern Illinois has taken over the CSX line, not sure if the 2-4 moves per day still holds. I've been through...

Re: CSX dumped a few in Rougemere last night
Could have had something to do with the railcar resting against the transmission line structure? That would be difficult to assess at night, the actual potential of it collapsing. If a live transmission line fell onto the train, then you have a shock hazard throughout the entire length of the train.

Re: Vickers Question
Yes they do change crews at Vickers. Quite a bit depends upon traffic, as trains do get backed up near the train station, where NS has its offices. Another reason for changing crews there is if the train is going to be laid up for any sort of time. That would be the best place in the Toledo area to ...

Re: E&LS RR yard, Green Bay, WI
Yes, ELS interchanges with CN in CN's Green Bay Yard, which is near the Howard/Green Bay border, or where I-41 and I-43 meet. There is a small industrial yard north of there in Howard, with a track over to the ELS line.
