Re: Grand Trunk Western Oddities
Thanks for the thoughts - having spent a few hours looking around last night in conjunction with what has been said, I'm back on the Flat Rock Sub boat.

Grand Trunk Western Oddities
I recently purchased and scanned this slide of GTW 6228 and 6425 leading an (assumed) northbound freight in Spring of 1985. The notes on the slide indicate "North of Dundee, MI". Typically I'd assume that to mean on the Flat Rock Subdivision but the vibe doesn't seem quite right for that and it has ...

Believe the FRA shut down the Northwestern Pacific in the late 1990s but otherwise unsure if it has happened elsewhere.David Collins wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2024 2:54 pmIs there a comparable example of a lapse of safety of this degree happening elsewhere?? I’ve never heard personally of something this bad.

Will be interested to see what happens with the north end of the railroad. As I understood it, a lot of trains were built and sorted for the UP in Manly. I can't imagine CN will continue to do that.

Re: Busiest line in Colorado?
Colorado is a big place so it's hard to narrow down specifically what you're asking for. Former D&RGW coal branches can be hit or miss with decreases in coal usage in the past many years. The Craig Branch runs from Bond to Craig via Steamboat Springs - very scenic but train frequency is low. The fro...

2292 started as ATSF 712, a GP9. Looks like they have 10 tracks with availability to spot 15 cars per track. More than adequate to justify a 24/7 operation. Google imagery from May 2022 looks to have a large variety of automobiles but looks like some Raptors and F-150s from overhead, so at least For...

I rather enjoyed running SD60Ms despite the desktop controls - nice to run over the road.

Maybe they can talk GoGo Squeeze into at least getting inbound fruit, or fruit juice. They don't use corn syrup so no luck with tanks of that. I believe some of the apples going to Materne (GoGo Squeez) in TC are transloaded on the West Michigan Railroad, per Trains Magazine. They are, that’s what ...

Gonna have to echo Saturnalia's sentiment on this one. DC had its time but AC is more versatile. And the light, fast trains you refer to don't exist any more. Intermodal may be lighter when you compare it to a manifest or coal train but it's still not a 3,000 ton sprint train from the 90's. Plus AC ...

GP30, I understand the confusion but last I heard GEMA is switched 6x per week. Perhaps I heard wrong, or something changed :? . As for the tank car business I think that is an oil product that came over from JAIL. Again, my information may be incorrect. I think box cars from the Dundee Engine Plan...

https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/kansas-city-southern-rejects-new-bid-canadian-pacific Why would CP offer less for KCS than CN did? I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but if two entities are trying to acquire the same company, wouldn't you want to OUTBID your opponent? CP still thinks their merger...

Thank you. Last time I checked the yard tracks are still there but disconnected from the main. Has that changed? Did they just run around their train or was there some other work they did at Ferry Yard? I can't answer your question definitively but last I knew Ferry Siding had short-term storage so...

Re: Kansas City, Chicago, and Eastern Railway
As a result of PTC implementation on the Peoria Line, foreign power cannot lead on the line anymore until other railroads' motive power achieves interoperability with the KCC&E's PTC system. The interoperability is a work-in-progress, with Union Pacific's locomotives the only foreign locomotives th...

I for one would have no opposition if the AA and GLC joined forces via Watco. Would be a good opportunity for me to come back home rather than conducting away for the WSOR

There's not really any specific answer to why they did what they did. The crew is the only source of reliable information on the subject. If I had to speculate I'd say the cars are billed differently and were thus left separate.
