Obituaries for October 2018

Don't want to step on HoboRich's toes, since this thread is HIS property, but I have an October Obit to report. . . PORTLAND, Ore. — Will Vinton, the creator of some of the most beloved Claymation characters of the 1980s, like the California Raisins and the Domino’s Pizza Noid, has died. He was 70 y...

Re: Amtrak questions

PM crews are based out of GR. New station contains lockers, a crew room, and all kinds of employment appurtances stapled/tacked on its walls. GR Press had an article some time ago praising the move, mostly for $$$ reasons.

1968 Penn Central Promo Film

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPlLt1Wsor0 Film introducing the whole Pewnn Central CORPORATION (not just the railroad). Worth looking over. Alas, just about every single 'innovation' mentioned, in retrospect, went sour. The narrator claims the Railroad itself contributes "a small part of its prof...

Re: Elk on the Ground?

So THAT'S what the problem was! I was Eastbound on 28th. at Buchanan, when GRPD cars tore into the intersection and closed off the intersection. I was right there at the light, headed AWAY from the wreck (didn't know that a wreck had taken place), and had to negotiate (argue) with the officer (in th...

Re: GT Spur on GR's NE side

Interurban? No. That was one of the City trolley lines. Interurban crossed on Leonard and went West, then up Remembrance. Trolley went North to North Park, crossed the Grand River right next to the road bridge, and did a return loop just before the old Fairgrounds. ALl that 's left is the ROW you no...

That's what I'm thinking, too, but aren't all the trolleys delivered? Maybe it's old news. After Slashdot is "news for Nerds" and not a railfan site.

Re: Ringling Bros. circus to close after 146 years

Is Strates still in business? If so, last I saw them, they were still using ex-C&O 86' TOFC flats, still in blue, when I saw them last in Orlando. They picked up the whole series when C&O decided to go with TTX equipment.
