Re: KCS 3916 SD70MAC spotted in CN's Port Huron Tunnel Yard
Spotted? Looks pretty clean to me. I remember when KCS locos were typing-paper white, but I digress. . . . .

Re: New Amtrak Baggage Cars
Every equipment plan issued by Amtrak the past fifteen-plus years went into depth of the need to scrap all retired/replaced cars. They don't want them reappearing on secondary markets in order to force other agencies to purchase new, with or without Amtrak, which would increase demand and possibly c...

New Amtrak Baggage Cars
Last week, 19 new Viewliner baggage cars ran upper-NY to Hialeah, FL in a special move. Upon final inspections, they enter service on the Florida trains, and upon arrival in New York, get sent out to their regular assignments. Some old cars will get scrapped; list is determined by a complicated deci...

Re: CSX and EMD
How rebuild-able are EMD components? The CSX road slugs made from the lowest-numbered ex-C&O GP30s are from traded-in BL2s, built starting in 1947. Before Chessie sidelined them all in one fell swoop, I would watch my named-for GP9, #6084, switch in Grandville. The loco was so worn that both trucks ...

Re: CP 6250 Q116 night shot???
WOW! "Good shot" is an understatement. "darn good" is only slightly closer. O Weston Link quality. Several years ago at an auction I bid on a large box that was listed as "an assortment of of xenon strobes removed from disposable cameras, sold by a photo shop." Since disposable cameras have fall-apa...

Most recent PM TRACKS has Fritz's article about the Lumber Spur. Best researched article I've seen in PMT in a long time.

Re: Grandville Interurban
When the 28th/Ivanrest intersection was totally rebuilt a few years ago (ROW went diagonally right through it), I checked it out and all it consisted of was some scrap limestone, assumed to come from plaster mine overburden, pounded into the sandy soil that's prevalent here. Nothing under 28th thoug...

Re: Superliners Vs. Horizon
The cab cars had an annoying habit of spinning around at-speed when colliding with a still-moving large truck. That's when they pulled the cab cars for cabbages.

Re: Grandville Interurban
"Not knowing where it is" and "Not knowing what neighborhood it's in" are two different things. Wyoming was a handful of different communities (Wyoming Park, Beverly, Rogers, etc.) in Wyoming Township until Grandville and Grand rapids annexed huge chunk in the 50's. That's why it incorporated-- in M...

Re: Superliners Vs. Horizon
All the present work did was to add electrical resistance heat to critical parts, along with temp sensors. Plus, Horizon dates from 1985, and even to rebuilt cars have a lot of miles on them. It would make sense that the non-rebuilt cars would stay that way and just roll out their miles elsewhere, l...

Re: Michigan Service On-Time Suddenly Improving?
I think my longest Englewood delay has been four minutes. Stop-and-go the last time. I suspect that Norfolk Southern's explanations carry more weight than Amtrak's. The flyover does allow for a fourth track to be added underneath, but I doubt that'll happen for a long time. Also, I recall NS and Amt...

Re: Grandville Interurban
The first incarnation of the Holland line crossed the LS&MS on a trestle; the Holland Interurban book lists a surprising number of pedestrians killed on it. It's far enough South where I'm not sure if it was located in Lamar or the Beverley neighborhood. Not my town. . . . .

Re: Grandville Interurban
I think we could all do with a visit to that Library presentation. Seems everyone has SOMETHING confused, even that big Godfrey HS website. Not that anyone's horribly wrong or anything, but there were several incarnations of the setup over the years that confuses everyone. There were three interurba...
