C&OHS some time ago published a "Pere Marquette in 1945", which was an amplified version of a PM publication geared for freight customers. Lists sidings, businesses, types of traffic, trackage rights, etc.

Re: Conrail Operations on the Old Road
Are you referring to the Toledo- Ottawa Lake (Clinton Industrial) Section? Old Road: In LS&MS, NYC, and PC timetables and Union contracts, "Old Road" referred to the entire line through the bottom row of Michigan counties. This dates back from Michigan having a land office in Toledo, Mi. I found a ...

Re: Before it was the Blue Bridge...
The Grand River downtown is really just a rectangular channel with square corners and no sediment. Any pole remnants are long gone -- the Spring ice breakup pretty much scours everything in its path. Remember, several years ago, Hudson (the big blue rock), simply disappeared, and it weighted some 20...

Re: Detroit-Toledo Passenger Rail-will this idea work?
Apparently nobody remembers the Lake Cities, one of the Chicago-Detroit trains extended to Toledo for a while in the 80's. It connected with the Lake Shore (only) , and did better than expected. Done in by Conrail's inability to turn the F40 in the 8 hours available, and somebody (?) insisting that ...

FABULOUS impression of MQT!For example, they sure aren't "desperate" to get rid of the P40s that have been sitting in Beech Grove for years and years, or the 40-60 year old equipment they still run regularly!

Some of CSX's road slugs, from the lowest-numbered 3000-series GP30's, have Blomberg trucks from BL-2s, built in 1947.
And the oldest diesel on a Class I is an Amtrak SW-1..

Re: white tank cars
In the late 1950's, during the mad race to make enough Moon Pizza to allow colonizing the Moon, there were some 45,000 NACX tank cars, owned by NACA, NASA's predecessor, that LOOKED boxcar red (iron oxide primer) but were, in fact, clear acrylic plastic (for sanitary reasons), and filled with pizza ...

Incorrect, Young Grasshopper. Contemplate your world as it extends far beyond a single "page up" or "page down" -- it's there. I'll leave your finding it as an exercise in diligence and attentiveness. Just don't take more than 45 seconds.

Wow, I went dwarf bowling in Downey, CA back in the 80's. Only time I bowled over a 150. Got a perfect 300. It was a Hell of a lot of fun, even if you didn't include the beer.
And saw a pair of EssPee SDP45 locos on the way home afterwards.

Tghe wreck you're referring to punched an auto parts box through the lumberyard that used to be there, delivering a glancing blow to the depot. Very minor damage. I have pictures of the wreck laying around somewhere in my apartment. I don't recall a West Olive wreck, but I was gone from the area for...

Re: FSUD Detroit Aniv.
Find the 70's movie, "Detroit 9000." It recently came out in DVD. A so-so movie (okay, it's pretty bad), the last part of it has the gang hiding in FSUD, posing as bums and squatters, and a final chase scene. You see the inside of the station in immediate-pre-demolition condition, and the viaduct fr...

Re: GTW west of Coopersville
Southern Line became the LS&MS "Old Line", Toledo to White Pigeon and on to Chicago. Monroe to Adrian and Kazoo to Grand Rapids was added later, along with other branches. All that's left is Kazoo to Otsego, and minor shortline remnants that I don't keep track of. Central Line became Erie and Kalama...

Re: GTW west of Coopersville
The GT line dates back from Michigan territory days; one of the first three State lines, the northern state trunk line. It's one of the oldest in the state, started before statehood. SHouldn't have been built? Sorry, Young Grasshoppers, but back when labor was cheap and trains were the fastest trans...
