Re: Delray Connecting Bottle Trains (Nathan M-3)
Question on these trains. How long can the consist get? Bottle trains I have only seen 3 or 4 cars long. I figure when they are switching ore or coal it can be even longer. Are all the locomotives remote operated or do they have engineers on some of them. What is the most as SW 1 can pull by itself?

Canadian railfanning looks a lot more interesting than American. Old Budd coached, and F5's still pulling freight. It is like a trip back in time.

One more thing just incase anyone was wondering. The train did blow its normal 2 long 1 short 1 long pattern and the gates were down at the time of impact.

Re: Sunday May 22 Amtrak 350
Ypsi you are correct on the numbers. We did not get into Ann Arbor until a little after 4pm according to the text I sent my wife so They told me they started on the clock at 4 am which means they reach there 12 in Ann Arbor. As for the guy in Westland that we smacked into you could be right but who ...

Sunday May 22 Amtrak 350
I was in business class so I got to speak at length to the train crew, which was in the Dining car about what the problems were. Everything I am about to share, I overheard from the conductors, or witnessed myself (except for my obvious sarcasm). I would like to first say that first off my complemen...

I will write up the story when I get home tomorrow. It really was the trip from hell but I have nothing but good things to say about The crew.

Amtrak in Jackson
So here we are stuck outside of Jackson, heading east bound. I guess there is a police emergency on the tracks. Anyone know what the issue is?
Oh and the loco on the 350 from Chicago is jerks a lot when moving forward.

Re: Amtrak Summer Schedule 2016
Yeah this really irked me as my train to Chicago in May was canceled and I had to reschedule for an early morning trip which I am assuming will be packed. So I guess I will hang out at Union Station until my ride gets me. I hate waking up before 9 am on a day off

Re: SMRS
About 8 years ago I noticed that there were grain cars stored on the track connecting to the Adrian and Blissfield. Has this changed? Also take note of the cars that that the SMRS stores on that line along with the numerous driveways long that stretch before you reach the farm. It would be nice to r...

Re: On the Boat Line 1/27 & 1/30
Heck I remember 10 years ago NS would pull pretty big coal trains from under the Ambassador Bridge. I always wondered why the coal went there in the first place and where they were going with it.

It never hurts to look and check but it is hard to find them. I just love exploring anything abandoned.

Re: Detroit Salt Mines
Yes it does go under Melvindale, Allen and Lincoln Park but the address shows Detroit which is where the main shaft is. I am not trying to sneak into there but find other abandoned mines in the area.

Detroit Salt Mines
I know there is a huge operation in River Rouge for mining salt. I thought I remember thought there was more than one salt mine in Detroit and multiple covered shafts hidden over the city. Can anyone confirm this or the location of the closed mines. Also where there any mining operations in the Metr...

Re: Amtrak Pere Marquette Ridership Down
I guess to each there own for wanting to take or not take Amtrak. I am always driving or taking the train in my attempt to avoid airports. The problem with driving to Chicago is not the driving to Chicago, that's easy unless you try to avoid tolls. My issue is simply I have driving around Chicago. I...

Thomas the Tank
I know some rail fans don't like the guy but he does get kids interested in trains and even model railroading and that benefits everyone who likes trains and wants to pass the railfanning heritage on. My question is on the train that makes its rounds to the museum's, what powers it. Is it oil fired ...
