Re: RRfan meets 2015?
Camping in Detroit makes you homeless and in Delray area people should leave you alone so long as you randomly scream at inanimate objects and dogs. I like the Beer idea so Grand Rapids or Battle Creek would be nice. I for one would like a place I do not have to spend the night so three hour drive f...

Update on Henry Michigan
The plot of land that I believe that the lumber/railroad town of Henry sat on is State owned land. So I bought a metal detector and have been practicing how to use it. I am not sure what I hope to find there but considering it use to be a railroad hub for lumber operations I am sure there has to be ...

Re: Zeeland Farm Services
A farmer from that area advised me they are going to turn it into a grain/produce storage and shipping area. He advised they will use rail and it should be a big operation.

Thoughts on trains as I struggle to grow up
I was reminiscing with my dad awhile back about our train watching experiences. When I was a kid way back in the 80's and 90's, I use to love watching the biggest train. I would want each train I watch to be bigger and louder than the last one and my dad preferred the local jobs and the yard switchi...

Re: Sandusky Register: Blocked crossings pose threat
I love how they think the blocking is illegal after 10 minutes, numerous courts and the FRA have said the Railroad has right of way and the state cannot regulate it due to interstate commerce rules.

Caboose question
I know that class one rail roads still occasionally use cabooses as platforms, especially on local trains. That being said does the conductor ride in the caboose on those trips or still rides in the locomotive? I read an article that NS is fixing up its caboose fleet. Does anyone have details on tha...

Coopersville and Marne
I thought the Coopersville and Marne was a tourist volunteer railroad. So why are there pictures of them hauling freight. What is the story behind there freight operations.

Re: Lowes in Grand Ledge
I have to ask this not to be mean or anything but several comments I have read over the years in this forum raise this issue. Has any retail outlet ever had a spur and recieved rail shipments. Every time a Menards, Home Depot, or Lowes open near a rail line, many jump in here and ask if it would rec...

Re: New Dearborn Station
I went there today it is a very nice and well done station. They have a nice waiting area and a good MiTrain display. The bridge over the tracks is nice but they have these dots on the widows that making it hard to look out and be able to focus, especially with a camera. Probably some stupid Homelan...

Re: Railroad Capacity-Only part of the story
As I read through some of the comments let me offer a business cube farm perspective on the problem with industry in the last 20 years. The problem comes down to JIT (Juat in Time). Everytime industry experiences extra what ever the immediate response is to trim the fat to fit the model of need for ...

Re: Railroad Capacity-Only part of the story
Questions How much would a breakman/conductor expect to earn in his first year on the job. How much does it go up per year. How much does a management trainee make. Are they in need of administrative employees I have worked a lot of different jobs some out doors some in a cube farm. I tried really h...

Maybe they are hoping the Cherry Plant will need business or they are keeping it for storage. Past that the tracks are torn up.

I am confused - car vs train Detroit
How does one hit a train. I understand a train hitting you, but when you hit an object of great mass, one has to wonder if it is a tragedy or the joy of natural selection http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2014/11/19/car-hits-train-at-notorious-woodhaven-railroad-crossing/ I just love how the article tries...

Wixom Question
I know this will lead to a lot of speculation however, I went to a Haunted House in Wixom this last weekend and saw that the crossing and tracks are still going into the old Ford Plant (now General RV and future Mendards). I know General RV will not use rail and neither will Menards. How long until ...

I was think that my neighbors and I could bid on them, then lay track and wires along our back yards. Then we we go to each other's parties and not have to worry about getting home.

Or you can use the Michigan Topographical maps and compare them to the maps on michiganrailroads.com. It also does not hurt to look at Bing maps.
