E&LS SD40-2 503 went on the ground Monday or Tuesday in Stiles, WI. That may be in the same location where they had a large grain train derailment last year.
Man, they have a shoestring maintenance budget up there, don’t they?
The ELS has a shoestring budget for everything.

Re: Great Lakes Central Updates May 2024

Signal Maintenance was in Kingsley yesterday. They installed a new WCH E-Bell on the East Signal at the M-113 crossing downtown to replace a dead mechanical bell. One mechanical bell remains on the West Signal. I noticed a week ago that flashing light/bell crossing equipment has been staged at Ship...

Re: Disused rail line in Pittsburgh overtaken by nature

I believe the line in question is either the West Side Belt RR or the Pittsburgh and West Virginia. The P&WV was part of the Wabash and bought the WSBRR out of bankruptcy in 1908. These two lines ran near each other but at different elevations. I do not know which line is still in service and the tw...

Re: Vicksburg Union Depot

The PRR diagram of the Vicksburg interlocking lists the following:

“Electric Machine
4 Levers for 12 Signals
4 Unit Table Level Machine”

Since this was an electric machine , there would be no need for the large mechanical levers and frame.

Norfolk Southern’s fourth quarter earnings from railway operations was in excess of $800 million AFTER taking a $150 million charge to account for costs associated with the “eastern Ohio incident “. Charges against earnings were also taken in the 3rd quarter ($163 MM), 2nd quarter ($416 MM), and the...

I drove through and stopped in Lima for about an hour last May in the early afternoon.

I caught one train on the CFE. IIRC there two other movements in town but I was not able to get a good look at what was happening.

I think the photo might have been taken at Nieman road looking SW. The pole line would have been in the right place (some poles are extant) and the tree lines look similar.

I thought I read somewhere‘s on RailRoadFan.com that the WMI was transloading apples that were transported up to Traverse City Michigan for Gogo Squeez. So who knows what the actual range on a transload site could be. Here’s an interesting thought. If Gogo Squeez transloaded those apples from the H...

Glad I was bored this morning and decided to research! And it’s nice to know there is a lot of history with this derailmen...

Well lets start with the agri traffic on the line and well start with ethanol plant in Caro and the sugar plant there too. tttleshe shuttles of ddg and ethanol should keep them very busy. Thank you for checking into it, LRF. It would have been nice if E&LS was switching the plant again bit it will have to remain a customer on my paper railroad only for now :) You have me interested. E&LS doesn't have a connection to Billerud. They would have to use trackage rights on CN. I know you ...
