Re: Bellevue Terminal to be converted to flat-switching

I walked down to the railfan platform last night mainly to get a view of amateur fireworks from various sections of town (and was not disappointed), but also got an interesting look at an outbound road crew building their consists via flat switching. The old east and west yards, which are the west e...

IORY and CF&E northwest quadrant connection in Lima

Anyone know if this is up and running yet? I recently saw one of Scott T's videos from late last year that showed construction progress was underway at that time. This connection will greatly increase the efficiency of interchange between these two G&W railroads, as it will provide for fluid moves b...

Re: TR 43 Overpass - East of Fostoria

The idea for this was all the parked trains after the ConRail breakup of 1999. Ah, I see. Does that crossing at TR 43 still get blocked much by stopped trains? To me, if they're going to spend money on an overpass on the east side of Fostoria, it would make more sense to do it for the CR 60 crossin...

TR 43 Overpass - East of Fostoria

I was looking at the ODOT Statewide Transportation Improvement Program list, which includes all planned road projects in Ohio, and came across this description of a project near Fostoria, shown as being in SFY 2020: Description: Railroad grade separation for TR-43 and CSX RR in the city of Fostoria....

Re: Wheeling & Lake Erie stuff

Right now there's a train of empty BLE hoppers sitting westbound on the Lakeshore. There are 2 WLE units on the front end (7013 on the point) and no power on the back end. Looking at a PA railroad map it looks like the easiest way to get from the Bessemer to the Wheeling is via the Union Railroad. I...

Re: Wheeling & Lake Erie stuff

Interesting, if that train had CN power they must have been on the east end, which I didn't see. It had WLE power at the west end, and I specifically remember one of the green and gray paint schemed SD40-2's on the point.

Re: Wheeling & Lake Erie stuff

Currently sitting on the Lakeshore track facing westbound is a W&LE train made up entirely of CN hoppers with this paint scheme: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1260/4747/products/4082474.jpg?v=1501029717 It's the first time I've noticed such a train on the W&LE (and I'm not sure if it was loaded ...

Re: NKP 757 on the move

It is now sitting in the coach yard at the Mad River & NKP museum, facing east right up against Southwest Street 2 tracks over from N&W 2349. The final move was this afternoon. NS 6183 shoved it out of the yard, so that it looked like 757 was leading. After pausing by the roundhouse for nearly an ho...

Re: NKP 757 on the move

757 arrived at Moorman Yard early this morning. The Mad River & NKP sent a caboose to the RR Museum of PA to accompany the move home, which was limited to 25 mph. On Feb 11 Strasburg 8618 pushed 757 out to the NS mainline, where NS took over and towed it in a reverse configuration to Enola. It spent...

Re: Wheeling & Lake Erie stuff

I'd be interested in seeing a full list as well Going by the info on youtube video descriptions and some posts on TO, here are 3 pairs that I know of (even numbers are eastbound) 223/224: Brewster - Toledo Lang (CN Interchange) 227/228: Brewster - Bellevue (NS Interchange) - these apparently used to...

Re: Bellevue - Oak Harbor directional running?

I was on that end of town again today around 12:30 and saw an EB intermodal (directional south) come down the northern Sandusky District toward the mini-pant, and then right behind it (less then 10 mins later) was an EB manifest that took the new connection into the yard.....so there's 2 exceptions ...

Re: Bellevue - Oak Harbor directional running?

Thanks. On a somewhat related note, today at 12:30 I was driving down Potter Rd and had to wait for a train lead by NS 9923 that was backing up from the northern Sandusky District onto the the new connection to the yard. After it cleared the crossing I didn't stay around to see what happened next , ...

Not sure if this will be determined as the cause or not, but it's worth pointing out that we had a thunderstorm with high winds and hail come through at about the same time this derailment happened.

Bellevue - Oak Harbor directional running?

Based solely on anecdotal evidence of what I've seen when out and about, it seems to me that every time I see a train on the Toledo District it's coming into Bellevue from the west...and the few I've happened to see on the northern Sandusky district were all going north towards Sandusky. Has NS impl...

Re: Sandusky Ohio

Though to be clear to northstar, the Norwalk derailment was definitely NOT the same train you saw in Sandusky. The line you saw in Sandusky is Norfolk Southern's Chicago Line, which was acquired in the Conrail split and used to be part of the New York Central's Water Level Route. The derailment was ...

Re: NKP 767 ferry move to Cuyahoga Valley RR?

The ferry move was today. It came through Bellevue in the early afternoon and went into the yard as opposed to the usual route down the W&LE. According to the 765 Twitter the plan was to drop off cars in Bellevue, get serviced at Avery, and eventually end up in Cleveland's Rockport yard.
