None of the above. 1946-1954.
If I had to choose, then the 1970s. Still a dreadful decade of decay and disarray for the eastern railroads at least.

Re: GAS PRICES EXPECTED TO DROP SOON.
I've been trying to figure out the price spikes, and it seems that there's a method to the madness. After spiking, prices generally fall over a week period by a total of a dime or 15 cents before spiking a quarter. Then it starts all over, the price recedes only to spike higher than the previous spi...

Re: GAS PRICES EXPECTED TO DROP SOON.
At the end of W's term gas was under $2 a gallon, unemployment was arund 7%, and economy was growing by just over 3%. Gas was under $2 a gallon at the end of his term because the stock market took the worst nose-dive since the Great Depression. And the resulting cost to the economy was devastating....

Re: GAS PRICES EXPECTED TO DROP SOON.
I don't know how old most of you guys are, but I never recall the prices at the pump swinging back and forth as widely as they have for the past 6 years. EVER. I started to drive when I was 16 in 1987. The price per gallon was 99 cents. As recently as 2002, it was only 1.39 (right after 9/11). It st...

Nice story there. Neat to read about people's memories, and it gave me the chance to learn a bit about that particular shortline railroad.

Yeah, maybe rp.net should start rejecting pictures using the wrong f-stops.J T wrote:When I see people use f-stops in between the ones listed above, I just scratch my head and wonder if they REALLY understand f-stops to begin with.

Re: Why I carry a P&S along - Wheeling in East Toledo
As long as you open the aperture up wide enough, you can shoot through chain link fences with SLRs. Though I've never shot extremely wide angles through a fence, it definitely works on longer focal ranges. I can't recall the settings exactly, but the first shot was taken in the neighborhood of 50mm ...

The rejection also says "underexposed". And I have a feeling they'll also reject it for backlit and/or high sun.

My guess is anonymity. Not everyone wishes to have their name plastered all over the web for one reason or another.ConrailForever wrote:... Go by a "screen name" so to speak instead of their own name. Is there any particular reasoning behind it, or just a preference?

Re: Why shoot in RAW?
So my D200 is about 3900 by 2612 pixels. If I shoot jpegs I should adjust the output so that I'll have a 1200 x 800 pixel shot: jpegs are already a degradation of the original shot, more editing of a jpeg just spoils the shot more. I guess the thing that drove me nuts about shooting fine jpegs was ...

Re: Why shoot in RAW?
JPG should work fine for the majority of photographers, especially newer ones. RAW is usually for those with advanced photo processing skills and for those that want more control over their photos. (i.e. control freaks and/or dark room dwellers) I've seen photographers boast that they *only* shoot R...

Re: Too Far Away
If I were the one behind the camera I may have waited a little longer to snap the shutter at a point where the locomotives have sufficiently cleared the building in the background. As it stands, the two are right on top of each other. A little more breathing room would be good. There's no rule that ...

Nice photos; just watch out for the "Similar to Previous Photo" rejection. It's a possibility if a shot is at the same angle and processed the exact same way..

The difference is, Grumpy actually knows what he's talking about. I don't know Grumpy personally, but maybe some of the camera experts could explain his choice of settings on this particular shot: http://blog.grumpysworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/bnsf4873gs1.jpg 1/1600sec · f8.0 · ISO400 Why ...

Unfortunately, no. I was heading back from being at Marion for an hour. I took the long way home (back roads) and just happened to be stopped by it in my car at the Liberty Road crossing. I wasn't expecting it at all. Nice surprise!
