For about a month or so I'd been planning on a day trip with a couple other railfans. Of the three areas around central Ohio that we were thinking about visiting (north, south, and west), we decided that we would go south of Columbus and pay a visit to the NS Columbus district and the CSX Northern S...
I hope you don't mind if I post a couple trip reports or "stories" from last Friday. Sometimes my reports are a little long, but I hope you enjoy them anyway.
Both trips were back to back, one in south central Ohio, and other north central Ohio on 6/30 and 7/1.
I think I may have lost my appetite for hamburgers after seeing one in a shovel and one slathered all over a tree.  Actually, I used to be a hamburger/cheeseburer fanatic, but for some reason I've lost my taste for them. My friends used to call me "Wimpy" because that was all I would ord...
Thanks guys, and also thank you for making me aware that there are different bases and attachments. Looks like the PRO-83 has a BNC connector. I didn't know that so many base types existed! Anyway, it was a tough call, but it looks like I'm going with the Diamond. My decision was made after I looked...
In response to Scooterb and Gregg, I am in the antenna market, and thank you for the links to your antennas. Quick question, I have a PRO-82 with the "rubber duck" that came with, but I am sort of unsure which one of your recommendations to go with. I am tempted to get the same one Gregg has b/c he ...
Thanks, that picture was taken on the NS Sandusky district just north of Delaware, Ohio at Penry Road. The train was heading east, or south by the compass.
Hi, Maybe some of the Northern Ohio folk on the board can help. Is anyone familiar with what frequencies to use when up in Bucyrus? I'm familiar with 161.190 for the NS Sandusky district, but what about the CF&E and the CSX? I was up there last week and spotted NS 13V coming off of the old PRR Ft. W...
Railfanning is still good around there even though the tower was demolished last November. I believe that it sat abandonded for a little over 3 years. I never visited the area back in the days when there were operators in the tower, but everyone I've talked to says that the operators were friendly a...
Hi guys, I took this photo of NS 8883 on 5/7 at the Scioto diamonds in Columbus, Ohio. I unfortunately missed hearing the train ID on the radio. :x http://ccaranna.rrpicturearchives.net/pictures/4944/thumbnails/ns8883.unknown.scioto.jpg However, I found this other photo of NS 8883 taken in Pewaukee,...
Looks like there's going to be a report about train watching on CBS's "Sunday Morning" today. It'll probably be near the end of the show maybe after 10:00, so if you're not already trackside, this may be worth checking out. I think they were on location somewhere in Georgia.
Coincidentally, I thought I had one seen one of those at one time or another...This guy was caught a year ago June at LM cabin (now demolished). Though I can't recall the CSX train ID, I remember they were waiting for an NS track gang working around the diamond to clear. This is where the CSX Columb...
Hey everyone, I just wanted to say hey, and that I'm from Columbus, Ohio. I'll probably be posting in the "Other States" forum from time to time. Also, I'm going to try to post some trip reports as well. If anyone else is from Central Ohio, let me know. Looking forward to visiting! Take care, Chuck
