The WSOR unit at Newberry is WAMX 3868 . It was there Friday east of the depot with 5551 behind it, and still being worked on.

Joeyuboats, It is A&L Irin and Metal, a scrap co. Now also on that same line for a few years now is a LSRC trans load site that handles propane and lumber. Always five or so propane cars on site. The lumber is trucked from Potlatch in Gwinn, south of Marquette, and railed to Virginia or West Virgini...

The trackage along Bond Ave. served several industries in that area, including the Grand Rapids Press at the south end of that trackage .The Press has long since moved to the 'burbs.

The train was parked at the transload site facing east Wed. pm.Thurs am it was still there at 10:00am. Sometime late Wed or early Thurs. the train was turned and facing west. No one around it.

In Grand Rapids they always called it the Chem Train, The news media called it the bomb train,often in all caps.

The wood loading spur 2 miles west of Seney has been empty for maybe 10 years, although the track remains. Timber Products at Forest Center(Wetmore) is a shipper. Most of the times I have seen Besse in Newberry,the cars have large diameter logs,not your typical pulpwood.

I don't know. but it must have to do with either rates or delivery time. Last I knew the lumber was going to Virginia,if memory serves.

The CN runs to L'Anse twice per week with at least 10 cars of ties each trip, on average. Koppers is also in L'Anse.

Trains L550 andL551 run daily Gladstone-Sault. A local operates east one day and west the next.
There still is an old centercab shell at the mill next to the road.

Daily train Gladstone to Sault. L550 and L551. Week days there is a local, east one day west the next.
