Re: Amtrak's Goals
I want to revisit the Amtrak profitability comment. No where in the world are passenger trains by governments expected to show a profit. I would like to see Biden's plan address the Gateway project in New York and more CREATE projects in Chicago rather than expand Amtrak service. I would also like t...

Re: Amtrak's Goals
Just in case we have forgotten we subsidize Greyhound and Indian Trails as well as Amtrak in this state. We haven't raised the federal gas tax since 1993 which means the gas tax revenues from both trucks and cars can't pay for all the costs so the general taxpayer dollars are used to make up the dif...

Re: Amtrak's Goals
An old article but just an example of how federal government hands out taxpayer dollars to other forms of transportation.

Re: Napoleon, Defiance and Western: The Definitive Thread
Has any of the work funded in part by the federal grant been done and if so what is the status?
Thank you.
Thank you.

There looks like there was a coal fuel facility on the old C&O you can see it off the trial. It's a vacant lot off Bayard St. You can still remnants of the silos

Re: C&O Elmdale Sub Operations 60's-80's
Would love to hear about the customers in Ionia back then for Grand Trunk. Ionia was an interesting rail town with the C&O and Grand Trunk basically side by side through most of the mid town.

From an August 2020 Progressive RR article:
n addition to growing, Pioneer is trying to be more efficient while using fewer assets to provide reliable service. The company owns 80 locomotives but currently is operating only 35 of them.

Re: Laharpe Shops
In an article in Progressive Railroading when Brookhaven took over Pioneer they had over 80 locomotives and were using only 30. I assume they will keep some margin of locomotives over the 30 number for servicing and reserves. There is a glut of used locomotives on the market right now. Who know if B...
