Re: Former Ford Executive to become CSX's next CEO

Let's take Lance Fritz as an example, and COMPLETELY shove aside the steam program and everything cool he's done for the public/railfans. I personally think he's the only person qualified to run a railroad in the United States right now, given his experience with the industry. Union Pacific was not...

Re: Possible Railroad Strike

I hate talking politics... As a general reply to your post, I'm not so sure the old conventional wisdom stands quite like it used to. While the public sector unions such as the teacher's unions have continued their extremely close relationship with the Democrats, the private sector unions are movin...

Lots of the railroad cars today say "Do Not Hump" and must be flat switched if they need to be switched at all.
That's why.
No one listens or cares about that anyways anymore, those cars get humped too.

Re: Possible Railroad Strike

Interesting that it has been stated in this thread that it’s unfortunate a railroad strike is not likely. Why? How does a strike help inflation? It doesn't, my opinion as well as a lot of others, is that railroad workers have been continuously being screwed over for the better part of two decades w...

Re: Possible Railroad Strike

The IORY is a union property, not sure about the CCET though it's likely not. The strike would only directly affect the carriers governed under the national agreement but would have a drastic impact as far as shortlines not receiving cars from interchange among other things. That said, a strike is u...

As for the WLE Carey Sub traffic has picked up a bit as an NGL propane transfer facility located online near Sycamore last year.
They get about 2-5 cars a day and the traffic is handled by existing trains.

Wow! Okay, thanks.

What could one expect to catch in Spencer Oh?
Mid-week days are generally busier, Spencer normally sees a 222, 221, 661, 662, 711, 712, 732, 735, 238, 237 daily plus any extras.

Re: Some questions about railfanning in Ohio

Thank You very much. Yes, Greenwich Oh is definitely on my to railfan list, a priority even . I've heard one can catch a couple W&LE trains if they're lucky running. That would be the Carey Sub, if I'm not mistaken which I could be. The Hartland sub goes through Wellington. I caught a W&LE manifest...

About 4-6 on the W&LE a day east of Brewster, 2 on the OHCR.

The line south of Uhrichsville was abandoned in 1992 I believe?

Re: Gondola Full of Water?

Scrap yards have a tendency to tamp the scrap into the gondola to be able to load more into them which causes dirt and scrap to become lodged in the holes in the floor, gondolas full of water are far more common than people think.

Re: Ohio Central Roster

OHCR 4023 is now on the I&O as well and P&W 2216 was recently added on the property as an additional B23-7R. I believe the two NS GP38-2's the Ohi-Rail had are still the power on the MVRY, and I'm not sure if they still own it but I think the OHCR 7499 is still sitting at the landfill in New Lexing...

Re: G&W to Purchase Ohi-Rail

I suspect this will mean the end for a substantial portion of the locomotives on the railroad. #47 has bounced around since it left the Detroit and Toledo Shoreline where it began its career, but has never ventured outside of the Michigan, Indiana, Ohio area under ownership. The only time it may ha...

Seneca Rail(SENR)

In 1998 when it became clear that the Conrail merger was imminent, Ohio Valley Holdings LLC. decided to begin contacting CSX once it was decided that the former PRR line from Walbridge to Tiffin would go to the eastern giant. At first CSX was reluctant to deal with a new investment group with no exp...

Back before the axle restriction was placed, one time did Q324 run with 297 cars earlier in the summer.
