"no one steering"
My local TV station (WWMT) just reported about a run-away train in India that traveled 45 miles "with no one steering." Those trains in India must really be something!

You never know
My nephew likes to park by tracks (he's retired) and wait fir something to come along. Last Tuesday he was in Vicksburg. On an eastbound CN freight directly behind the power was a former Minnesota Commercial ALCO C636 dead in tow heading for Quebec. It's not often you see ALCOs these days. Then on...

Re: Future of the Plymouth Sub/Grand Rapids Sub
I wonder if the CP ever wishes they still had the lines from Minneapolis though Sault Ste Marie to Sudbury to Toronto. I would think that it would be shorter and certainly less congested than through Chicago and Windsor.

Re: C&NW 175
I saw the 175 every day in the summer of 1969 when I was the fireman on the Keweenaw Central #29 (ex-Copper Range 2-8-0). It was just sitting there apparently with no hope for the future.Years later I was back in the Copper Country and drove past it every day on my way to work for ten years. I sure ...

C&NW 175
What is the status of C&NW 175 (4-6-0) at the Steam Railroad Institute in Owosso? I know it was moved there a couple of years ago to be restored. How is the work progressing along? I haven't heard anything for quite a while.

Marshall
With all the hype and hoopla about the coming Ford battery plant to be built in Marshall, has anyone heard anything specific about any rail service? A large amount of money has been designated for "infrastructure" but does that include any trackage? With the size plant they are talking about would a...

Sault pulpwood
On another board someone asks about pulpwood coming across the border at the Sault from the new Agawa Canyon RR (Previously Algoma Central). Does anyone know for sure where it is going, what mill, what town?

PawPaw River Transload
Today was my first time seeing the PawPaw River Transload facilities east of Hartford. There were so many covered hoppers and tank cars in abundance I was really surprised and impressed. What all is happening there? Further east there were more covered hoppers and tank cars just sitting but there se...

reporting marks
When did reporting marks get shortened to no more than four letters? When did MSP&SSM become SOO or NYC&SL become NKP, etc?

Re: BO (Botsford) Tower Demolition
Once when a northbound NS was approaching KAL and Amtrak was already at the depot the tower operator told the NS to "ease it on down" knowing that Amtrak would be gone by the time the freight got to downtown. After the Amtrak had left, the tower instructed "ease it on down a little more." I'm still ...

Re: CN Newberry Subdivision Customers
I live in Portage (Kalamazoo) on the Grand Elk route between Elkhart and Grand Rapids. I'll offer this as a word of encouragement. I don't know what new business can be found in the U.P. these days but Watco is good at finding new business down here. I suspect they'll try just as hard on the new lin...

Well now it seems pointless for the class 1's to paint engines in "retro color schemes" if we're not allowed to look at them. "Here it comes, cover your eyes."

Re: GDLK Operations
Saw the GDLK local as it passed southbound thru Portage about 2:30 this afternoon. Twenty-six cars, the first 25 were boxcars. I thought the boxcar was a "vanishing breed." Where were all those cars going? Other times I have seen the local with a preponderance of boxcars, too. I can't think of that ...

Re: White Pigeon Grain Trains
Yesterday, April 7, I saw an NS grain train come off the GDLK while watching Elkhart live Railcam on Youtube. So not all are going via CSX. I know of only one back in February.
