Re: New Connection in New Buffalo AMTK.

*The idea there is to finish that long-stalled CREATE Project at Grand Crossing. So the PM would go from the PM to AML at New Buffalo, AML to CSS at Michigan City, CSS to the IC/Metra Electric at Pullman, then IC to the Waterlevel Route at Grand Crossing. At that point the NS is past most of the ma...

Re: Amtrak Asset Line Plan FY20-25

By the way, they did research doing their own ROW to Chicago. It’s in the plan from 2019. I’m not sure where it stands at this point but Amtrak is still exploring all options to fix the timing issues that NS doesn’t seem all that motivated to fix. Plan or wish list? When someone says plan I expect ...

Re: New Connection in New Buffalo AMTK.

The Midwest Regional Rail Initiative is a bad plan and most of it will never be built. They have St Joseph Michigan and South Bend Indiana served by bus routes on that map! It was a pipe dream written before recreational was legal in Michigan so I assume they had some bad drugs. I like the connectio...

Re: New Connection in New Buffalo AMTK.

That’s quite something. Here’s my question: if they’re going to double-track the line from Niles to Glenwood, why not go all the way to CP147? The roadbed is still there. According to my timetable it would be about 40 miles of new track. Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to double-track an area in ...

Stone and grain so common they don't get mentioned. I can't remember the last ones but it has not been too long.

Halfway there. New EB traffic signal is in place. New WB signal remains on the ground (off camera to the left).

Re: Muskegon RR bridge murals

Any of the 20 artists invited would have qualified to do the work. It looks like they have interested parties from outside the 20 so they should find someone. The payment for the mural is $7000 to $8000 per mural with the rest of the cleanup work on the bridges done as part of a much larger project....

Re: Saugatuck Hill coal train questions and speculation

But the one thing that has always confounded me is CSX’s haphazard approach to getting coal trains over the hill. Sometimes it’s helpers. Sometimes self-service DP from the nearest siding. Sometimes they have to double the hill. It seems to me that inconsistency is the enemy of efficiency. Why not ...

The construction crew was out Thursday and set the new crossing signal wiring cabinet on the south east corner of the crossing (old cabinet is behind and to the right of the new).

Re: NS Signal Work At Goshen

It is too close to CP 3 to be creating a new CP. The new shack is probably for the new crossing signals. College Ave is getting overhead signals (there should be one new signal on the ground on each side of College Ave). I first saw the new signals on the ground a week or so ago. A long time ago the...

The train took over an hour to get to White Pigeon then stopped south of US 12. It sat there for a while so I took a couple of shots and went home.

Both of them in Kalamazoo survive - although they are both fixed signals and do not give the status of the signals at BO (or occupancy, etc).

It isn't the drop, it is the rise. Those 4% ARE "taking advantage" of the service being available.
