Re: Pedestrian Hit By GDLK Train in Kalamazoo Yesterday.

Shocked that local police issued a citation to the fool, but needs to happen more often. Prediction: The fool will sue GDLK and extort a settlement from them in order for them to avoid the cost and expense involved for this case getting to trial.

Re: Huron Central Railway

Frankly, I smell a "cash grab" or an attempt to re-negotiate their present deal. They knew the condition of the railroad prior to entering into the lease. In Canada, just like the US, one does not simply shut down a railroad; the STB (in US) would not allow it, and neither will the Canadian Governme...

Re: Derailment in Swanton

Sadly for the railroad, the railroad will likely be "eating" the damages. First, there will be the question whether the woman has insurance at all. IF she has insurance, the required no fault coverage for property damage in Ohio is $25,000. Now, assume (doubtful!) she paid the additional premium for...

Head on near Toledo

Was told that there was a head-on collision between 2 CSX trains somewhere near Ohio in the last couple weeks, but I have not been able to find any information on it. From what I was told, it was in PTC territory but the PTC did not function correctly and CSX is trying to keep it quiet. (How one kee...

Incident at Durand

Last week, apparently there was an incident at Durand where a GLC hi-rail operated over the CN trackage without authority crossing the diamond in front of CN Train M398 causing the train to go into emergency. Also understand that the GLC employee was not qualified to be on CN trackage to begin with....

Re: New Bridge Over Manistee River

Good thing for GLC the State is paying the $6 Million bill for this project, as if the cost were placed on GLC they would have to increase their carload charges exponentially to cover it, which would likely translate into freight traffic converting to truck and then there being no need for the bridg...

Re: SRI announces embezzlement by former employee

My reactions: 1. Kudos to the Judge for increasing the sentence. Too many judges simply slap wrists. 2. She will likely appeal the sentence given that it exceeds Legislative and MDOC guidelines. 3. Given prison overcrowding, she will be released by MDOC at her minimum sentence date. 4. She will pay ...

Re: A Future for the BO Tower

The vandals will steal it one piece at a time. Then, some derelict will move in. And, then, one cold winter night, the derelict's Sterno can or candle will be the cause of a fire which burns the structure down.

Re: Amtrak ticket agents

Our society is going cashless. Pretty soon, you will not be able to do anything unless you have a credit card. And, the way things are moving, one of these days, "they" are just going to install a chip in your head when you are born, and everything will run based on that chip. No need for cell phone...

Re: Amtrak ticket agents

Reality is that Amtrak needs neither agents nor caretakers to staff the stations. Why have a station in the first place, when a simple bus stop type shelter will do just fine. Amtrak can have a "mobile caretaker" who has a high-pressure sprayer in the back of a pick up truck come by once a week or s...

Re: Amtrak ticket agents

No need for ticket agents at any Amtrak stop. The Michigan trains are all reserved seat, so do your reservation online and pay by credit online. Amtrak (and, Michigan, since the state subsidies Amtrak) loses enough money. Having "agents" at each stop is simply an added waste.

Should come as no surprise that NS would be selling the building. The building was over half empty for the past decade, and now with the dispatchers having moved to Atlanta, the building is 3/4 empty.

Re: SRI announces embezzlement by former employee

I'd bet dimes to doughnuts that one of the members of the Board was a "fan" of the embezzler and saw to it that the request was made so that the embezzler could cover up. Seen this type of behavior before at another non-profit. As I said in an earlier post, there likely should be further audits/inve...

Re: SRI announces embezzlement by former employee

Rarely does an organization issue a press release regarding embezzlement by an employee, as such press releases can and usually do shake up investor confidence. (Even a non-profit, such as SRI, has "investors".) The correct steps have been taken by involving law enforcement and seeking prosecution. ...

Re: Amtrak Kicks 13 Y/O off Train in BC

I fail to understand why there seems to be any outrage or chagrin over what Amtrak may or may not have done here. Plain and simple, Amtrak policy prohibits a 13 year old from traveling unaccompanied. Frankly, I question the sanity of the child's parents -- there are many "undesirables" out there. Am...

Re: Nichols Tower-Battle Creek

Curious if it really was the City that forced the situation. The only thing a CIty has to enforce it its ordinances. Federal Preemption precludes any municipality from having any regulatory authority over a railroad. There were a number of towers around the Detroit area that had the "incinerator" to...

The study is in! The passenger service to run between Ann Arbor and Traverse City will fetch in annual revenue of over $128 Million! Re: City of Ann Arbor considering Quiet Zones

Just what Ann Arbor needs. They must have more money than brains. They can do this at the same time they build their new $85 Million Amtrak Depot. too. Better yet, why don't they just elevate all of the tracks? It might be cheaper! And, cannot wait until their next study comes out that the vibration...
