Re: AMTRAK back in Depot Town, Ypsilanti??
Also another article on restructuring AMTRAK travel between Detroit and Chicago http://sites.google.com/site/amtrakdaytripstomajorcities/home Not the best researched or fact-based or realistic article by ANY means. If you look, it was created by an architect who probably has very little knowledge o...

I may be missing something, but does this mean that there is no longer Chicago-Cincinnati service? I don't see anything about the a CINI block from Chicago.

Re: Lansing's Old Town railroad spur to be reactivated
I have to laugh, when the 1st train does venture on that track, I would love to see the faces of the people who park their cars on that line, and see a train come thru! Bet they move their cars pretty quickly! Or what should be done is JAIL should notify those people of impending rail traffic on th...

Re: MAW and CSX at war again
 WOW!!!!! I had no Idea that they cost anywhere near that much!!!! I guess they are a specialty product that needs to be very high quality. Not to be nosy, but do you know how much a conventional manganese steel diamond costs? On another note, the MAW is being totally ridiculous by no...

How much can an OWLS diamond cost? Sheesh. Install one and forget about it for 30 years.

Re: Lansing's Old Town railroad spur to be reactivated
The track shouldn't have to be any better than FRA "excepted," so the JAIL will do just what it takes to avoid derailments more than a few times annually, which may just entail replacing some of the ties. Any re-alignment of the track, however, will require substantially more work, as tamping and li...

Re: Amtrak ridership surge
Snyder is rare for a GOP member. Most of them are nowhere NEAR as rail-friendly, as it is somehow "socialist" (as if the interstate highways aren't)

Re: Amtrak ridership surge
This speaks volumes about the future of passenger rail. Oil prices are only going to increase from this point in history, and the economy was far from great in 2010. If that many people are already taking trains, even when they are regularly late and the service is, honestly, far from perfect, imagi...

Can't "positively ascertain", but that looks like some nice foreground clutter in that shot of NS 9423 by the "NO BEER " sign

Re: BEERTRAIN WENT TO BRISTOL PA
I was looking for the Budweiser car too:) I've ridden RT Hartford to NYC and Wash DC to NYC. The regular trains were running 90 mph and the Metroliner from Wash DC ran 125 mph. It was pretty sweet passing cars on I-95 at about twice the speed they were traveling. Note: Amtrak is running on the insi...

Re: MAW and CSX at war again
With the right ownership and operating techniques, the MAW would be much better off. All the line needs is a change of operators, and some money for track work. Getting that line up to 20 or 25 mph would be sufficient. Even 15 mph is suitable! I really wish someone would make it happen, but I won't...

Re: Ten killed and 50 injured in head-on German train crash
Sad, but it's one of the worst rail accidents of modern Europe, and only 10 are dead. Over 5000 Germans die in automotive accidents each year. Rail is still MUCH safer than roadway transportation, despite these isolated incidents. I'm sure that more Americans die monthly from tresspassing/grade cros...

Re: Michigan Air-Line Abandonment: Haggerty Rd to Wixom
Could CSX buy the line from Wixom just to APT? Would it cost to much for CSX to own a spur? or is it cheaper to just transload them to truck in Wixom? CSX will make sure its cheaper to transload than to buy the 2.5-3 mile segment from Wixom to APT. There are companies who receive far more cars than...

Wauseon Golf Course
I was looking on google maps for locations along the NS chicago line to visit, and I noticed a location called "ironwood golf course" just southwest of downtown Wauseon. It has a gravel parking lot next to the tracks. Has anybody ever parked there? Is it an acceptable location to sit, or will you be...
