Re: Lake State to display Alco at the saginaw railway museum
I would think one of the C425 locomotives since it is one of the more historic and iconic locomotives of the line, not so much the M420s or HR412s. I would not think there will be the RS2 #469 or RS3m #974 since they are owned by Waymore Power and not LSRC/SBS

Re: Rose City, Alger/Prescott, Lincoln and Hillman/Paxton
Does Tawas City/East Tawas and the museum still do anything for Railroad Days? I know it is scheduled for Oct. 8th 2011 but what will be happening? I have seen pictures of LSRC locomotives parked in town for the event but I doubt they still do that. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dtisd38/2760528177/ h...

Rose City, Alger/Prescott, Lincoln and Hillman/Paxton
A few years ago, I was talking to a Detroit & Mackinac Ry "expert" and he said that him and his wife went down the old D&M line from National City (Emery Jct) to Rose City or Prescott (can not remember which) and found a bunch of old relics such as tie plates with the turtle emblem in them, track sw...

Re: Tell me about Lake State Railway
I love Harrisville. It is my home away from home! Anyway, about 4-10 years ago, it used to be that weekday nights, the southbound would come through town at about 8pm-10pm and the northbound about 6am-9:30am. More recently, the southbound would come through town at almost exactly 9:30pm (I was up th...

Oscoda and Alabaster
Does anyone know what has or will become of the Lake State Railway's branch lines at Oscoda (Skeel Spur, Wurthsmuth Air Force) and Alabster (Tawas, Alabaster Jct. to the gypsum mines and dock). Will they be abandoned or left to return to nature. In Oscoda's case, trees have begun growing through the...

Amtrak question, not directly Michigan related
I am working on a research paper for my Humanities class and the topic is railroad passenger service in the US and Michigan. I have hit a bit of a bump when it comes to Amtrak and competition. I have read several places that it is "illegal" to compete with Amtrak. I do not understand this very much ...

Research Topics?
For school, we are working on our research papers for Honor Humanities. Are there specific contriversial topics anyone can think of? I am looking for possibly northern LP Michigan railroad ideas and, even better, LSRC area. Two ideas that I have are 1) Extending passenger & freight rail service in N...

Re: Future Passenger Rail Routes?
What about the former Michigan Northern Railway??? They ran passenger trains to Mackinaw City, Petoskey, etc. What were there services and operations like? Was it an actuall passenger train or more of a tourist train? I don't know how sucessful it was but from what I have heard it was very short liv...

Future Passenger Rail Routes?
After some research and looking at a few articles from the Michigan By Rail website and attending their forums, I have gotten my mind thinking of what is possible in Michigan for passenger rail routes. Here is my question for all of you: -What routes should be considered for upgrades such as higher ...

Re: CNR Caboose in Howell?
Yes, we will need plenty of help, both on the caboose and the depot itself. Please check out our web site! It should be updated Wednesday night or Thurday (delays would be weather caused since our next meeting is Wednesday night).

Re: Alpena
Does LSRC still use the roundhouse for anything except storage? To they still keep locomotives in there? I would think not because they leave every night for Bay City/Saginaw yards? And they actually wash the locos up there?!

I usually go up to the Alpena yard several times during the summer while I am vactioning at Harrisville. What is different during the winter? Will there be anything running tomorrow afternoon in the yard or going southbound? And when/where does this new customer (http://railroadfan.com/phpbb/viewtop...
