Re: Dakota Southern Railway

On Feb. 17, 2021, the advisory state rail board voted 4-0 with two abstentions due to conflict of interest in favor of selling the line to the Ringneck & Western Railroad, L.L.C. The price is $13 million. It is to be paid $5 million at time of closing and five annual payments of $1.6 million at the ...

Re: C&LC rail customers: Lake City & Falmouth

Outbound were Christmas trees in mostly 40' and a few 50' boxcars. Pulpwood was second, loaded in five ex-GTW single sheathed boxcars minus their roofs. The cars had cast iron wheels which forced their retirement in 1971 as no longer useable in interchange service. Third were seasonal cars of hay lo...

The operator paused and said, "I'll put you through to Mr. Harrison." I obviously, from the posts that followed, did ...

Re: New Bridge Over Manistee River

It is about time the deck pin-truss bridge was replaced. My faint recollection is that it is well over 100 years old. The wooden pile section on the south end dates back to circa 1980 when an arsonist set fire to it. Fire damage extended onto the ties above the pin truss which caused some concern an...

Re: Dakota Southern Railway

Speak of the devil and up he jumps. Current update on Dakota Southern Railway operation. A 110 car shuttle grain elevator is currently in service east of Kimball, SD. As is standard, BNSF delivers unit trains of BNSF equipment to the shortline at Mitchell, SD. DSRC crews operate the train with BNSF ...
