Re: Ann Arbor Railway - Rail America
He may also be thinking "old school" Ann Arbor in its entirety from Toledo to Frankfort (and throwing in the TC area trackage), not making the distinction between the current Ann Arbor and GLC operated segments of the original Ann Arbor.

I don't think I could admit I was this stupid by filing a lawsuit. I guess there's no shame when a money grab is involved.

I can't afford a computer either. Wait, I'm on a computer now. Nevermind.

Re: JACKSON - LANSING RR / PART 2
Don't know if RSDC distributes to a stamping plant that does work for the Lansing Grand River plant (Cadillac CTS), but starting next week they're switching from a 4/10 hour days schedule to a 5/9 hour days plus Saturday (2 on 1 off) overtime production schedule. They'll be on that at least from now...

Y@, I agree with your comment: Shooting for the train will make you a great wedgie shooter. Shooting for the location will make you a great railroad photographer. Another one I remember from a pretty good rail photograher is "Don't think of it as a train picture, think of it as a picture with a trai...

Re: Danger: Another Train Coming!
Well, you know they wouldn't have installed something as obnoxious as this if there hadn't been someone ignore the previous lights and bells and walk out in front of a train. Of course then they (or their next of kin) got a lawyer to argue that these crossings were dangerous. After all, how could a ...

Re: SPV Atlases..
Agree that they're well worth the cost (not $40 though). I've often photocopied the pages covering where I'm going to be travelling and then mark them up however I want in order to note photo locations, etc. Easy to travel with then having just the few pages. Especially if flying somewhere for a few...

EB and WB with rescue power? Quite a coincidence, or is there something else going on?

Re: Amtrak's 40th
I'm with you Magnum. I like your version better than Amtrak's. Subtle change, but the additional red is nice. I am curious too why they didn't bump the pointless arrow back a foot to avoid the fuel filler. It looks centered on the engine where it is now. Maybe it would look funny if back a foot and ...

Re: Lansing's Old Town railroad spur to be reactivated
I imagine the last run over this segment was in the last couple weeks. The segment of the line running to Quality Dairy's bottle making plant at the corner of Washington & Mt. Hope has not been out of service at all. QD gets 2 or 3 cars of plastic pellets there every other week or so and has for ye...

Re: Where Would You Go Railfanning for a Week?
California. Tehachapi area is one of the nicest areas I've ever been to. Statewide you can get scenery from beaches to mountains, desert to urban. Not too much variety with paint schemes, but scenery, WOW! Now as for the traffic, crime, smog, etc. there are lots of better choices. But since I'm only...

Re: LSRC Accident?
"Railroad tracks in northern Michigan typically are not marked." An irresponsible comment by the sheriff and the media. As mentioned elsewhere, federal law requires all crossings to be marked with at least crossbucks. I'm sure the crossing in question was so marked. I'm also pretty sure that even if...

Re: Not too late to play the Brent Musburger Game.
An update to this game from the link, and much simpler, is you have to take a drink every time he refers to his current partner Kirk Herbstreit as "Herbie". You'll be gassed in the first quarter. I don't know how Herbstreit doesn't punch him. Or at least start calling him "Mushy".

Re: Need help tracking an S-3's past
The "dimples" are poling pockets. If you look at engine photos from the 40s-70s you'll often see a wooden pole about 10-12 feet long hanging beside the truck of diesels or along side the tender of steam locomotives, switchers in particular. The pole would be used to push cars on adjacent tracks by a...

Re: Need help tracking an S-3's past
By appearance this is certainly an S-3. Small round stack, AAR trucks, and narrow radiator shutters. The most accurate way to identify this unit's past is by getting the serial number from the frame. As posted earlier, it should be on the right front corner near the steps or maybe on the end near th...
