Hey y'all,
I am looking for older photos of the Tank Train that runs from Sarnia to Essexville via Durand. Particularly when the train had the big white/orange GATX logos.
Thanks!

Re: MICHIGAN SUGAR CO. CARROLLTON in HO SCALE
The fascia is finished! When the GT took over the PC tracks from Mershon to Bay City it did not bother to paint over anything... hence the color.

Re: Track plan
Looks like you have a nice large space for your layout! Is your last above post still your functioning plan?

MICHIGAN SUGAR CO. CARROLLTON in HO SCALE
Here is the start of section 1 of my layout, Michigan Sugar Co. at Carollton (between Saginaw and Zilwaukee). The functioning name of the railroad is a spin off the old Oglebay Norton Saginaw Docks operation in Saginaw, it is called Saginaw Terminal Docks (STD). The time frame is the 1980s and close...

Re: Sugar Beets and Tank cars
Based on what the sugar plant in Croswell ships, the tank cars would be for outbound molasses shipments. Inbound shipments might include beets (although not in tank cars :D ) and coal. Croswell trucked their coal in, I don't know how/if Carrollton would have brought in fuel for their boilers. Wate...

Re: Sugar Beets and Tank cars
I think they shipped out molasses and liquid sugar products in tank cars. I don't know of anything that arrived in tank cars (but maybe I'm mistaken about the arrivals). Thanks AARR, That helps to have you option on tanks for being outbound. I have a molasses loading area and I guess I always assum...

Sugar Beets and Tank cars
Thanks for reading this, I am working on my Michigan Sugar Co. based on the one in Carrollton. I need to figure out what arrived in all the tank cars there while it was operating and what was stored in those 2 or 3 big tanks. I have some information but does not quite add up yet. I am not really int...

Re: Wurtsmith AFB
Someone contacted me off line and said that the jet fuel may have been loaded in Bay City and shuttled by D&M to Wurtsmith. Maybe it arrived by ship to one of the storage tank terminals on D&M's shoreline spur :? . I have also heard this before somewhere years ago. The tracks in the area that would...

Re: Wurtsmith AFB
The jet fuel tank cars may have been traveling between the refinery in Alma and Wurtsmith. On at least one occasion they were trucking the jet fuel but eventually it went back to D&M. I think, again I think, many of the tanks in this service were loaded in Bay City on the D&M by where DOW is and al...

Re: Wurtsmith AFB
I have searched for info on Wurtsmith AFB also pertaining to rail service. Not much, but I have seen over my research of the D&M in the late 1970s and especially 1980s is that the silver, black and white DODX jet fuel tankers served Wurtsmith via the D&M. I concluded this from seeing all of these di...

Re: Old Sugar Beet Hoppers???
The sugar beet service started around 1994 at 200 cars annually and has built up to around 1500 annually if what I've heard is accurate. I think this is accurate except the the "start date". I have been closely studying the structures and there are beet dump chutes for rail that have not been used ...

Old Sugar Beet Hoppers???
Hi everyone, I would like to mine your brains again. Before the SGVY giant hoppers (ex-GMO, ICG...) what hoppers were used to move sugar beets around the Bay Valley? I think the giant SGVY hoppers are relatively new to the job because I do not remember them at all in the 1990s when I spent a lot of ...

A and B car ends and special loading question
I know that sometimes boxcars need a certain door placed on the unloading side and flat cars need this too for different unloading procedures. I am asking people if they can post the correct terminology for including these specifications in operational model railroading. And what type of other cars ...

Please consider donating to this. The reel of color film with sound was expensive and now the hi-quality conversion to digital is expensive. Soon as a I have enough I will publish this film in HD on youtube. Thanks for considering, every little bit helps it get done sooner. Click link to see more: h...
