Re: Railroad Scanners
I really have yet to find something more sensitive than the Regency HX1000/1200/1500 scanners from the mid 1980s. The trouble is finding one today that still works. About antenna mounts: I have found that sometimes a magnet mount doesn't provide a decent enough connection for the antenna to pick up ...

Re: Railroad Scanners
I haven't yet trimmed it; unfamiliar with the process. I'm sure there's documentation somewhere I can get started with.[/quote] The antenna should have come with a cutting chart. Otherwise you can find one online specific to your antenna (that last part is important). Remove the whip from the coil u...

Re: Railroad Scanners
No. You don't transmit with a scanner. Poor ground plane will, however, hurt your reception if you're using an antenna that needs one, which you are. Excellent, I have ordered one. Thank you! You don't necessarily need an industry ground plane disc. If it saves you a few bucks just get the largest ...

Re: CN/CSX Frequencies and My Scanner
When narrowbanding started I didn't notice a difference in reception. The best BNC handheld antenna I've used for the rail channels is the Smiley Antenna 5/8 Slim Duck. This isn't the first thread I've noticed the OP complaining about reception issues. If you are using the scanner in your car, I can...

Re: Railroad Scanners
Is your BC125AT a hand held scanner. My original scanner, a base set Bearcat 210 from 1974 ia still going strong and one of my best ones for receiving even though I have three separate outdoor antennae's attached to three of them. The BC210 will program only ten frequencies to scan at one time, but...

Re: CN/CSX Frequencies and My Scanner
Looking at the FCC database for the Trowbridge area, 160.530 and 160.590 appear to be the two CN frequencies in use in the area.

Re: Looking for..........
You're welcome. If you are looking post-1978 division reshuffling, east of Meekers was Columbus Division, Meekers to Winnemac was Southwest Division, and what little was left on into Chicago was Chicago Division. I did a little more digging last night and by November of '81 the westbound main east o...

Re: Looking for..........
Multimodalways.org has plenty of Conrail Columbus and Southwest Division track charts from the era in question. Milepost 11 just west of Hilliard was the division point between the Columbus and Cincinnati Divisions. Yes, the line was double track Rule 251 ABS most of the way. There was a two mile si...

Sure it wasn't 19.5? That was West Plain City, a handthrow set of universal crossovers where Route 161 crossed the tracks.

Re: Canton-Bucyrus PRR
The CF&E does not go east of Crestline. There's, what, 8-10 a day on the current Ft. Wayne Line? I know there are three tracks through Canton, but really there are only two main tracks. The north-most track is the Reed Runner, and it's a 10 MPH at best piece of track. At one time at Mace, the PRR go...

Re: Sidney Ohio
It's still very hit or miss on the Indy Line, however some of the recent Indianapolis changes have added a few trains. The Toledo Sub can be anywhere from 30-40 a day, and usually traffic comes in streaks.

Re: New Control Points on the Indy Line Taking Shape
Long thread on the changeovers going on, on the other Indiana Forum. Good detailed info there. This section of D251 isn't original. It was installed to replace a NYC era D251 setup just a few years ago. it's all CSX vaders set up in 251 operation. The crossover sets will change this to 261 operatio...

New Control Points on the Indy Line Taking Shape
The new CP at milepost 219 on the CSX Indianapolis Line (between Farmland and Parker City) is pretty much complete. New vader signals, crossovers and pre-fab metal shed with satellite dish is all there. This is in addition to the other new CP going in at milepost 178 (west of Russia on the ohio side...
