Re: HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Housatonic RR Guthrie Holiday report
Housatonic ex GP35 3604 is at G&U’s shop for a complete rewire and other upgrades, not sure what its designation will be once it is done. A second geep 35 might also be there at the moment, too. Yes, they are using rental GP38-2s as their main power plus an MP15 end cab switcher. They also have an e...

Re: Milwaukee Junction, Detroit
I’ve been cruising the internet and other sources for additional photos of Brush Street (and Milw junction but am having less luck with that). There is some discussion and some photos on this earlier RRFan SEMTA thread: http://railroadfan.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=22790&start=20 Brush Street platfor...

Re: Pere Marquette 1225 ruled out for rest of 2024 NPE season
Ok I’ll say it - an SW hauling a long string of passenger cars over the road full of cheery passengers may be less impressive than a storming 2-8-4, but it’s at least as rare. I’d go chase them for a trip if I lived closer. Perhaps one day 1155 and 1977 will join switcher forces and try to take over...

L301-04 @ 17:41 eastward reported by the Defect Detector mp CG19.1 Zeeland, Mi with 108 axles. CSX engines #4053 + #4082 & 24 cars. He’s headed to the Grand Rapids Terminal. I passed this train as the crazy wind and weather were beginning near Zeeland, in the dark. It was hard to see everything, bu...

Re: New Route to South Bend Airport for South Shore.
Does NICTD publish their ridership data in a station by station fashion anywhere? I’d love to know how many people actually use the SB Airport station (and some of the others along the line).

Those crafty folks at the Indiana Northeastern trying to open up another business line at Coldwater! I believe this warehouse is the one at the end of the spur track at Jay Street, where an engine often lays over to switch Coldwater industries.

Re: Michigan City Coaling Tower to be demolished in 2025
Many of these structures are approaching 100 years old. One has to wonder how much longer some of the other iconic ones in the area (New Buffalo, Grand Haven, Baldwin, Augusta, Lansing, Durand) have left. Seems like the only thing keeping Grand Haven standing is cost. One year they want to demo it ...

Re: Amtrak Train Location Update/Heads Up Thread 2024
Not a good night for many Amtraks in Michigan. In the oh-snap department, it looks like 352 suffered some kind of failure east of New Buffalo and became stranded. 364 may have been enlisted to pull disabled 352 to Niles, causing 364 to become significantly delayed, but getting 352’s passengers to a ...

Have there been any extra coaches on the Bluewater or Wolverines this week? Thanks Andy Big shoutout to the Amtrak crews working the holiday today so that people can get to family and friends for the holiday! Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a lot of spare equipment to go around, but I have no...

Re: Wheeling Lake Erie locomotives looking like Rio Grande locomotives
Can we all agree that it’s too bad the Wheeling & Lake Erie coke trains no longer come to Rougemere? I always enjoyed seeing the eclectic mix of W&LE power in Rio Grande, Rio Grande-inspired, or various other special or lessor paint schemes. I miss it! http://railroadfan.com/gallery/albums/userpics/...

Re: GDLK Operations
What is the control method north of the signal system into Kzoo? Track warrant? Yard limits? In the NS days at least, it was Form D territory. Various block stations exist which delineate non signaled blocks from Park all the way up to Hughart in Grand Rapids. I think Z man actually has one near hi...

Re: Milwaukee Junction, Detroit
I’m pretty sure that color SEMTA photo you have is mislabeled and is actually at the platforms at a Brush Street. That tall brick warehouse in the background might still be there, or was there until fairly recently. This photo from the GTW Steam days seems to corroborate the Sanborn map, view lookin...

Re: GDLK Operations
Watco petitioned the STB a few years ago for the removal of signals from Three Rivers south. The petition was denied. Watco ended up replacing all of the signals south of Three Rivers. I'm not sure why they didn't replace Park and Cowling. CP 99 became CP 1 When NS replaced the signal as part of th...

Re: CSX slug question
RDMT stands for ROAD MATE, which I think it how CSX originally referred to their GP30 and GP35 slug units. Later RDSLUG came into use. I don’t think there is any technical differences between a RDMT and a RDSLUG. But perhaps I am wrong and someone will correct me. Incidentally, are any of the CSX ro...
