Re: Delray Connecting Status

Per KenB's post 2/2021. NO spat between Conrail and USS. The DC contacted the NS and cut a deal to keep their people working... Thank you. If the steel comes from the NS, does it come to DC via the Boat Yard Line and over the 141 and Short Cut drawbridges? Also, on aerial maps you can see there is ...

Vicksburg Union Depot

Congratulations to the Vicksburg Historical Society as their Vicksburg Union Depot was listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service earlier this month! The 1904-built high style depot stood at the diamond of the GR&I mainline north to Mackinaw City and the GTW Chic...

Y121 worked two of Zeeland’s three customers today, setting off a centerbeam load at Zeeland Lumber, and picking up a covered hopper from Van den Bosch Feed which was dropped off on Wednesday. My Van den Bosch industry thread has been updated.

Re: Lake State Railway

It’s been quite some time since I’ve railfanned any part of the LSRC (other than a brief stint at Holly), but I’ll share what I know about locations. You may need to do a little legwork on train operating times. The Lake State wiki page on this site lists all of the symbols and customers across all ...

Re: Delray Connecting Status

I recently came upon this informative map of the Delray Connecting trackage and interchange locations/and some current and former major customers. I think the Ecorse side of the USS Great Lakes Works is still open to some extent. Detroit EES Coke Battery on Zug Island is still open and CN presently ...

Grand Elk Z439 interchange brought 9 cars from the csx to Hughart just before lunch today, a mix of boxcars and covered hoppers. One csx boxcar had zero blue paint left and was basically all rust. Nice to see the Geep 35 pair in action!

Clear Zeeland, 17:12, engine UP 7134 trailing. 📸

I can’t believe it! None of those 3 UP engines looked like they had caught fire! 🔥

I have wondered this as well! In addition to 6th street, you can see them between the buildings just south of the Dock Track crossing and north of 6th street, where I shot this photo from this morning. There wasn’t time to inspect them more carefully. Both appear to have had overhead roofwalks, dati...

Re: CP 2816 Continental Tour: April 2024

I saw an estimate that the American Freedom Train of 1975-76 travelled approximately 25,000 miles on its coast to coast tour. But this was work split between multiple steam locomotives , not just a single tea kettle. In other news, CPKC just released this detailed Empress schedule about planned days...

Re: Conrail Shared Assets Trackage

I've been racking my brain here, but maybe someone can help jog my memory. I seem to remember someone reminiscing about working at Carleton Tower back in the 1970s; while they mostly spoke of C&O and DT&I operations there, they did mention a bit about PRR/PC as well. I seem to remember them mention...

It’s well over 200 miles from their southern extent at Wixom (metro Detroit) to the northern limits at Alpena and Gaylord. The railroading also looks extremely different whether you are south of Saginaw or up in the North Woods. What geographic area are you considering? That’ll help us chime in with...

Hi all, I recently visited the CSX/GLC interchange in Howell, and I’m wondering if there are any other spots like this where the trains are laid up for a while and not moving? Hoping to get some cool photos of different types of cars like various boxcars or autoracks. In general, is an interchange ...

If it is helpful, the code line pole line along the AA in Michigan up to Diann seems to be along the east side of the tracks. The pole line along the ex DT&I Flat Rock Sub from Diann up to Flat Rock was to the north of the tracks. My “Shortlines” photo album offers a number of photos of AA and IORY ...

If things are slow, the classic 1952-built MV Kaye E Barker is heading for the Rouge Plant, AIS currently shows tentative arrival at 12:30 on 4/6. You’ll be just up the rails from the Jefferson Avenue drawbridge. Even if the lighting isn’t perfect for photos, it’s an experience to see a vessel of th...
