As reported in the Elkhart VR camera chat, CP528 departed West Toronto this morning westbound around 09:00 with CSXT 1869, the C&O heritage unit, in the consist. Not sure what timing looks like for Windsor/the Tunnel/customs and getting onto the Wabash.

Re: Newbie question about interchanges

Hi all, I recently visited the CSX/GLC interchange in Howell, and I’m wondering if there are any other spots like this where the trains are laid up for a while and not moving? Hoping to get some cool photos of different types of cars like various boxcars or autoracks. In general, is an interchange ...

If it is helpful, the code line pole line along the AA in Michigan up to Diann seems to be along the east side of the tracks. The pole line along the ex DT&I Flat Rock Sub from Diann up to Flat Rock was to the north of the tracks. My “Shortlines” photo album offers a number of photos of AA and IORY ...

It was a big deal around 2006-07 when National in Niles began using rail and NS B-1-G began bringing coiled wire to them. I’m not sure when they last got rail service, but the end is near… https://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/2024/04/southwest-michigan-spring-and-wire-factory-to-close-cutting-85-job...

Re: River Rouge railfan meet-up 4/6/24

If things are slow, the classic 1952-built MV Kaye E Barker is heading for the Rouge Plant, AIS currently shows tentative arrival at 12:30 on 4/6. You’ll be just up the rails from the Jefferson Avenue drawbridge. Even if the lighting isn’t perfect for photos, it’s an experience to see a vessel of th...

Re: Latest Signal install/build

Love this! There’s no doubt it’s the old EB signal at the end of the passing siding near Irvin Street in Plymouth. One place I always wanted to get to but never did was St Albans WV on the old C&O main. The double track main had at least one siding along each side warranting a whole series of monume...

Jon was that pair of CSX MAC’s photo taken from the Grand River Ave overpass in Lansing near the airport? I’ve wanted to get a shot there for a long time but the timing has never worked. Side note: a lot of those trees have good fall color. Additional side note, you were within sight of a McDonalds ...

Re: Carleton, MI railfan meet

Before this thread gets locked for going off the rails on topics that have already killed horses elsewhere on this board, let me just say that the trains those did see on 3/28 seemed a good mix - intermodal, manifest, a bonus grainer, foreign power, CSX power, and now regular LSRC power too on L313,...

We're at a crossing near Willis, Michigan, on the old Wabash main trying to make something of the weak November sun on a 2009 afternoon. While it was pleasing to see the sunshine, fall must have come and gone early this year as the trees are totally devoid of leaves! First up, an eastbound Triple Cr...

As a side note as well since Nick and I are collabing on this, I’ll be arriving at the tracks any time between 5-7 am. Any further questions and suggestions can be referred to myself as well.
Hey Royal: how did it go? What trains did you see? Is the tower still standing?

Impressive itinerary, when's the last time a steam loco took on a trip of this magnitude? I was thinking of the 4449’s impressive trip from Washington to Owosso and back in 2009. I ran into multiple people from across the country chasing 765 on the INER last fall who recalled that trip and the oppo...

Nice! Glad someone is doing the Carleton thing and you’ve already got yourself a grain train which is an added bonus to the “regular lineup.” Enjoy the day!

Re: Padnos center cab

I dug around back through my phone to find the photos I snapped of the one time I saw this “other” 65 Tonner doing some work at the Holland Padnos property. Date is December 23, 2021. I have not seen it move before or since. Close inspection reveals it has seen a lot of “excitement” over its life an...
