Re: SMRS is showing results
I think you might be reading into it a little much... Just as the people here on railroadfan involved with or working for the C&M, SRI, GLC, Amtrak and other railroads don't post detailed notes about all of their activities here, SMR is the same. There really isn't a need to share with the world our...

Re: SMRS is showing results
BTW, what was the full route of the Palmyra and Jacksonburgh Railroad? Are there any maps of the full line? The Erie and Kalamazoo was the first railroad built in Michigan, which at the time was a US Territory. the E&K ran from Toledo to Adrian Michigan. Today that line exists in two segments, the ...

Re: Jackson ops
Yesterday I observed two local freights westbound out of Jackson yard. One I assume was the Albion turn, but not sure what the other was. The first was maybe a dozen or so cars, tanks and covered hoppers IIRC, out of Jackson yard some time around noon. The other was maybe 90 minutes later, 20-30 car...

Re: Abandoned but ok to steal???
I was backpacking on South Manitou Island a few weeks ago. The are lots of ruins of old buildings and farm equipment, bits of shipwreck and driftwood often wash up on shore. There are many examples of things that would be considered abandoned and that likely wouldn't be missed if taken. One item I f...

Yes, there's some hefty work projects going forward on over that part of the line, our work timeline is to be running south again to Raisin Center for fall 2016.

Re: Ann Arbor signals at Pittsfield
Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but perhaps there is some hope if all they did was remove the signals themselves. With all the circuitry still intact wouldn't it be possible to simply bolt the signals back on their base if their use becomes justified in the future? While it's probably a long shot tha...

Re: Huckleberry Genessee Road Crossing to Close
Good to see work being done on the Huck, one of my favorite trains in the area. The train and the village have always had a bit more of a "real" feel to it than Greenfield Village and the Weiser Railroad.

Re: Southern Michigan Railroad Society report
The supposed "washout" at the SMRS bridge, is not a true washout, rather just preventive maintenance that needs to be done. There is an area that needs fill dropped in and light tie work but thats about all. There was not adequate resources to address the issue last fall, so we ran Fall Colors north...

Re: History of the ROW From Niles to Jackson
-The old LSMS Jackson-Palmyra branch (via Manchester and Clinton) was crossed at OD in Jackson (Cincinnati Northern traffic also used this LSMS track). I think there's a picture on Michigan Railroads, it was a pretty substantial tower, size-wise. What I'm about to say may be what you meant, but I'm...

That would be the same one JT I believe when the video was shot that the history of SMR and it's beginnings were explained more in depth, than the few sentences that made the final cut. The videographer was just a someone who was making the video on their own initiative, so they got to choose which ...

Re: Former CR Clinton Branch Industries.
In Clinton proper there was a freight house for team track type cargo, as well as Hardwoods Lumber which got some traffic occasionally. There was a gain elevator as well at one point. Clinton had a house track for the freight house, as passing siding, and a spur for Hardwoods and the elevator. Most ...

Re: ADBF schedule
Been a while sense I've chased them, but here's how I remember it. If NS has dropped off cars, they'll spend the morning sorting cars in the Adrian yard. A GP9 is usually spotted at the east end at Golf St on the main. Another GP9 on the west end with a cut of cars will be pulling cars out of the in...
