Re: NS SD70 Series Units All Stored In Roanoke, VA

Making them B units does not solve the issue of poor fuel efficiency (compared to modern T4 or rebuilt power) and low flexibility. There is a reason B units went out of style decades ago (for new production at least). Even 1% savings per unit can result in savings of millions over the course of the ...

Re: Amtrak Releases FY 2020 Data

I personally do not believe so. With Biden going to transition to office (A noted Amtrak supporter), Amtrak should be able to bounce back. Given a potential Covid Vaccine coming potentially Q1 2021, the short haul will bounce back, and eventually the long distance should too. I would say the LD will...

GTW and PRR Heritage on 11/23/2020

This morning I got word that the CN Q116 with the GTW heritage Unit leading was still working Moterm. With that information I got myself together aiming for Either Delray or Wyandotte since they would be departing Moterm at the same time I as left my house. I got word they were on Conrail about 10 m...

Re: NS Updates - 2020

it was by CP28 around 8am. Best bet is to be in Ann Arbor for 351 and wait. They have been following 351 pretty close all week. (other than one day where they only ran one way to Wayne)

Re: Delray Tower photos

Potentially my last train pasted the tower with manned operations was BD04 today heading for Zug Island. We stuck around hoping to see some more trains passing the tower today, however with the weather turning we had to call it after a couple hours. Cannot complain about a GP60 potentially leading m...

IC Blue Devil and Deathstar on the DT&I

This week I have had the chance to go on the former Detroit Toledo and Ironton Mainline between Oakwood Junction and Pennford Junction. We got lucky on Tuesday and found the IC 2462 and IC 1017 for power. We shot them just south of Oakwood under the double arches before chasing them south to just no...

Re: Delray Tower photos

Unfortunately once the neighbors know it's vacant, anything valuable will disappear quickly. And then it becomes a safety hazard to others. And will need to be torn down. I highly doubt this would be the case, as so many towers in "sketchy" areas stood empty. Not to mention the worst that will happ...

Re: LEGIT CN HERITAGE UNITS!!!

CN is going crazy in 2020.. you get a special paint unit, and you get a special paint unit! Glad to see it, what will be even more interesting is seeing the special paint and heritage units mix in with their decent sized amount of "original paint" units all over the system. More veterans tribute uni...

Re: Delray Tower photos

   WELL as sad as it is. The tower is slated to come down on Monday the 16 th. No 11th hour reprieve. Tear it down or close? I don't think it is necessary to tear it down as the building makes a decent storage spot for MOW and signals guys. Just look at deshler which has been standin...

Re: CSX Train Locations Updates November 2020

At high noon on a Saturday, you can imagine how many irate drivers there were today. Love to bike down and watch them seethe, and today was no exception. Was observing this for the first time today. Was rather amusing the backup it created. The only thing that might help is they could try to shove ...

GLC on the Plymouth sub at Howell

Today I was able to catch the GLC doing interchange with CSX at Howell. The plan was to run down to Howell, swap cars, and then return north. My goal was to shoot Anne Pere then the searchlights at Dearborn street. I arrived as they were getting to the north side of town. Not knowing the area I scou...

Re: Why Amtrak not running 110 MPH

Gee-- all the progress, technology and innovations, and we are still wondering why Amtrak has trouble doing what Milwaukee Road used to do everyday,-- behind steam, on jointed rail, in the late 30's and 40's. Ummmm.. the standards of what you could do and more specifically GET AWAY WITH back then w...

Cloudy Cleveland Sunday

This last Sunday I took a solo Socially distanced train watching trip to Cleveland Ohio. My main goal was to chase the Cuyahoga Valley Railroad Fall Flyer Train. The Fall Flyer only ran between Independence and Peninsula so the chase was relitevly short and easy. After successfully getting 7 or so s...
