and it wouldn't be profitable for someone to operate an isolated section of a couple miles of unused track?
CN was able to pawn the White Pine branch off as part of that package deal and there really doesn't seem to be much hope in that line's future

Speaking of The Chicken, here’s Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree/The Pineapple Thief/King Crimson doing a drum solo on David Letterman using bits of The Chicken. https://youtu.be/99ATD9vTHSE?si=o49GQ54l9JaaTo8O "creme de la creme as they say in the creme business" :D That Gavin guy is really someth...

Strange Locos

I've seen these units around the internet for years but I have not found an explanation for them. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2964521 PRSX 6404 (Slug) and 6408 (GP40-2) leave me with a variety of questions: Who rebuilt them? I'd guess Progress but the haphazardness of the un...

Re: Unidentified Alco road switcher/KLSC passenger car.

I have recently discovered that a second DSS&A RS-1 is apparently around and is not well documented. The Indiana Railroad Museum in French Lick, Indiana has an RS-1 painted for the Algers, Winslow and Western and was originally built as DSS&A #103. This unit is still active too on IRM's French Lick...

Have always wondered what this facility was/is and its relation to the railroad.

I've been interested in why CSX plays such a big role on this site. It's always got the most updates from the widest group of people on TLU and it has by far the most detailed and up to date train symbols list on the wiki.

As far as I'm aware, there has never been a #998. As for #999, that unit is off in California last I heard stored pending potential conversion or future use by Rail Propulsions Systems. Omnitrax currently as a "G12" battery-powered GP9 rebuild from AMPS running on its Newburgh & South Shore Railroad...

Re: ADBF/JAIL Changes Made Under New Ownership

CR had so much worn out old power that they shipped some of their old geeps out for rebuilding (I forget who did them but these came back with short hoods) and then rebuilt many of their own (I don't think they ever chopped the hood on the ones they rebuilt) and also bought a ton of GP15s. Conrail ...

The asbestos region would be north and east of Montreal/Quebec. Remember that the old SJ&LC, in Vermont served an asbestos mine. That M636 was well taken care of by CP, in the St.Luc shops, and IIRC, was given the name of the foreman there, who was in charge of re--- engining it. I guess the cost of ...
