NS Fort Wayne - Saint Louis Line / how many trains?
I have a friend that wants to buy a house on the west side of Fort Wayne on what appears to be the Saint Louis main line. How many trains per day come through? My guess is about ten but I’m not very well informed. Thanks!

Re: CSX OCS October 2022
What is MAS on that line? I live south of St. Joe and it seams like 371 comes through about 55mph most days. I'm trying to time the visit of P001.

Sorry, I meant IERR over in College Corner. They have/had those ex-Algiers Winslow SD9's.

Recent INER status
Greetings,
I’m passing through town soon, do the SD9’s still run? I don’t want to make the trip for random geeps. Thanks!

Re: GLC is looking for a GM
Makes sense, thanks. The 350-mile number is a bit random, I'm curious how FRA came up with it. From a casual observer, LSR and GLC are pretty similar outfits. They cover a distinct region and are not switching/terminal railroads, not a true short line, and not a national carrier. But I guess they ha...

Metra SD70 purchase
Metra is buying 15 (option for 27 more) SD70's with rebuild by Progress and HEP added.

I think it's a good idea but the topic has been polarizing.

Re: South Shore to run Frieght To Jackson???
Per Amtrak's filing with the FRA: The Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad operates over a very short distance on the Michigan Line in the Michigan City area (MP 228.0 to MP 228.79. They operate three days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The President of Chicago South Shore & South B...

Re: South Shore to run Frieght To Jackson???
So while that post on facebook may have been a joke, I can speak to this issue truthfully. About ten years ago I spoke to a CSS official who was a friend of mine. He's no longer with the railroad. I asked him that, given the expansion to Kingsbury and north side Michigan City, would CSS think about ...

Re: This Should Not Have To Be Said
Perhaps a dumb question but please fill in a few blanks for me. I know the general idea of a rollby is where one crew looks over another crew's train while it rolls by for problems. What is the actual procedure? It seems like the big problem here is that a civilian who was (a) not qualified to obser...

Re: Crain's Article Michigan Central Station
In addition to the Glass House and the Salt & Pepper Shakers, the two main Ford office complexes, there are a lot of random Ford offices in what appears to be strip mall-type office parks on the Dearborn side of the Detroit metroplex. Perhaps this is an effort to unload a few of those and consolidat...

Re: CSX reviewing lines for potential sales
Obviously things change, but they already tried to sell the PM quite a few times. Heck they tried to sell it to CP when CP still used it, and they didn't want it. I'm not sure who would want in after CSX lost over half the traffic. Unless of course, they are offering one heck of a deal. That changes...

Re: South Shore buys EJ&E/Gary Rwys Line?
Interesting. Looks like they got T&B Tube, Republic Steel, Atco, Centennial Processing, and AK Rail Material. Do all still ship by rail? Does this deal also include the former American Bridge plant? The switch appears a hundred yards west of the switch at CSX, so maybe not.

South Shore buys EJ&E/Gary Rwys Line?
Good evening,
Has anybody heard the rumor that CSS freight has bought or received trackage rights on the EJ&E or Gary Railways? My main source on this info is not as in the loop as that person used to be so I'm curious if this actually happened.

The STL trains all follow the former Alton (GM&O) route from downtown to STL. CN has it north of Joliet, UP south.

Re: South Shore Electric Vs. Diesel
Dinwitty is right, the gallery car trains on SS were due to car shortages. As to why the freights are no longer electric, you have quite a few reasons that just cant change: 1. The old electric power was rare and worn out. 2. The railroad once made its money on bridge traffic during regulated times,...

Re: Freep Michigan Central Station Article
Call me a cynic, but my read-between-the-lines here is something like this "wow if only the state would fund umpteen trains and have them pay me rent, MCS would be a moneymaker". Yeah, if I had a super model and $1m I'd be the coolest guy ever, but I don't. I have to get by on my looks alone. What w...

Re: South Shore "Double Track" Project
I have questions about that as well, I've watched my speedo app on Amtrak trains rolling eastbound along Chicago Street and Huron Street at about 50 mph. Can a city regulate train speed, and if so, can't the state incentivize the city to change the speed if so? NICTD employs quite a few people in to...

Re: South Shore "Double Track" Project
Amen. I know my opinion doesn't count for much, but even tearing up 11th and running down that alignment strikes me as a giant time waster. Think about the curves, hills, and crossings. They could probably cut 20-30 minutes off train times if they re-aligned over CSX to the south.\ And here's one ot...
