Re: NS on the ground in Jackson Yard.

I cleaned the image up a little but only so much you can do with potato vision and Microsaus Faint. Joint 20 ft to the left of frame only had 1 bolt remaining and it may have been sheared and as you can see the rail started to roll over. This happened in the yard lead just in front and West of the y...

Re: X785 Light Engine Move

Interesting, I remember reading an old timetable from the 90's stating that the maximum number of units that could be move in one consist over the Willard sub was 9. Don't know why that number was what it was, maybe a bridge loading issue or some other such engineering concern. Apparently that is no...

Re: What does your railfanning vehicle look like?

Nope no 4x4. But it was a good deal and the V8 was a plus. Only 110k on the clock super clean inside and out.

NS on the ground in Jackson Yard.

Sitting in Jackson yard watching them put together the outbound train. Puff a big cloud of dust and two axles of the lead locomotive are on the ground. Was just passing by so no scanner and only phone potato camera.

Re: Anyone know of a rail museum with a GEVO?

IRM had the last pair of unpatched CNW dash8's on loan for awhile from UP but last I heard they were taken back and put into service again. Given the longevity of -8 and -9 locos so far with very few being retired yet, it will be a long, long time before a GEVO makes it down the asset sheet far enou...

Re: GP35’s to be scrapped in Owosso

Preserving locomotives is a daunting challenge. Hell just getting them moved anymore will bankrupt most small museums unless they happen to be near the host railroads tracks and they decide to deliver. Don't forget there are 2 AA locomotives already in preservation in Mi. and both are stuck where th...

I finally had to upgrade the Danger Ranger this year after making an unscheduled stop with a deer. Introducing the Trac Attack, 07 Ford Exploder Sport Trac with the V8 of coarse. https://scontent-ort2-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t31.0-8/28336800_10211431405089069_7017776022658676440_o.jpg?oh=b3feac017977879ca3...

Re: Volunteering at Tourist Roads near Detroit

Southern Michigan Railroad Society would be happy to get you started. We have had a few volunteers transition to the big leagues and vice versa. We are in Clinton, Mi and we should have a mandatory crew training session coming up in the next few months. That is the best way to get started. Check us ...

Re: A Lil Story ABout PTC...good luck!

The whole article sounds to me like the guy is butt hurt that he didn't get the big government contract that was obviously written to be handed off to a university grad department. Probably some state senators kid. So he is picking the thing apart because a bunch of grad students and a couple profes...

Re: Toledo - bridge over NS featuring MDH

Love how they jump all over NS saying their bridges are poorly maintained and are in danger of falling down. If that idiot only knew just how much the FRA requires for inspections of bridges. Most highway bridges would not pass FRA standards.

Re: S. Carolina Amtrak-CSX Accident

One report has the CSX dispatchers talking the crew through the signal suspension by phone. Boy that saves a lot of time at 59 mph. Radios aren't working either? Since this is how they were receiving orders no chance for the second crewmember to hear the conversation. Only one person heard the disp...

Re: Consumers Energy vs CSX

Love how CSX claimed that the line along the lakeshore is expensive to maintain. Like Amtrak and the State of Michigan don't pay them to maintain it to passenger standards already. And if they don't like running traffic through Chicago they could always go back to rail ferries. Just sayin.

Which crossings are you referring? There are many on various lines. But the most used have been redone lately with the most significant the crossing in front of the Amtrash station on Michigan Ave. A unique arrangement with traffic lights on the cantilever crossing signal bridges. Similar ones exist...

Bet they're having fun in the 'ol Seneca county clay. That stuff will bury entire tractors this time of year if not frozen. The Great Black Swamp never really went away the bich just hides laying in wait til winter and spring.
