Re: CSX Train Location Updates - Sept 2024

Y297 @ 17:19 northward at the wye no cars for the GRE (said the yard was jammed up) just empty gons heading to Padnos Front St. That Grand Rapids Wye area is always jammed with traffic on all sides especially for a train that goes 10mph in and out of yard limits. He’s talking about the yard Andy. N...

Re: Newaygo, White Cloud & Northern (NWC&N)

Some new changes: The NWC&N has taken delivery of it’s four new GP40-3 locomotives (1899, 1975, 6560 and 6561), two of which rebuilt by Bay City Locomotive works and the other two by Metro-East Industries in St Louis, Missouri. The two GP40’s rebuilt by Bay City Locomotive were painted in the colors...

Re: Bangor, Portland and Northern (BP&N)

With the BP&N’s trains becoming quite large as of late and to reduce wear and tear on the 345 and 4108 due to their age, the BP&N has acquired a former Chessie System/CSX SD50-2 #8557. This unit will be used as an RCO locomotive for classifying cars. This unit was picked up from Larry’s Truck and El...

Re: HO Scale NS engines and my layout.

Cresson Steel has closed their west location in Morristown, PA and has started routing all of their traffic to their east location since their new two track yard has opened up. A stamping company receiving steel coils has taken it’s place, receiving 1-2 cars per switch. The cars either being gondola...

BNSF/CN coal trains on the Holly subdivision

I’m trying to remember the ID’s on the BNSF/CN joint venture coal train pair (C767-C768??). I saw only one of the coal trains, and the only train I saw was a northbound run back in 2010, with a thundercab BNSF SD70ACe leading with an executive SD70MAC trailing and a Dash 9 or GEVO (can’t remember fo...

Re: CN Train Location Updates Sept 2024

There’s been a NB lined up on M2 through Royal Oak for the last 45 minutes. Betting it’s 513 but they never take this long to come back north after getting their light to go home.

Re: Lake Orion branch operation observations

Hopefully this is the correct place to post this. I am interested if anyone has any information on the two vintage-looking “New York Central” passenger cars that can sometimes be seen parked on the Cesar Chavez bridge at the start of the Orion Branch. It appears that they are put there occasionally...

O998 now lines out of Durand yard and down the Holly sub
Not lined by M.A.L. yet. Most likely waiting for 515 to go into the yard.

251 by the Fort St at 9:04 CN x4 GTW 5817 4/4 It went past MP 22.4 around 11 am. The GP38 was 5814 I think. Either way I bet it is the oldest ex-GTW GP38 on the railroad now. About a half hour later 116 went by, short train, all autoracks today. Geo train heading south, pitt at 12:45pm. Meeting 251...

Re: Adrian & Blissfield reefer traffic?

I remember that transload operation. It was a steady operation for many years but stopped shortly after DCON too over. They would get several refrigerated boxcars every week and unload them directly into the trucks. Pictures of the sketchy transload are now in the Michigan Railfans group on Faceboo...

Re: HO Scale NS engines and my layout.

Image 1 (post 6): After setting the pick ups off with the Northern division cars (worked by another local), the BPT-15 crew moves the locomotives to the west of the yard, for BS-15 to take over and switch the Bangor industries (Bangor Paper and Blarney Castle oil). That will come later in the next p...

Image 1 (post 4): Note how the train did NOT set-out the drop off. That is because the locomotives need to pull into the transloads’ track when switching the sand transload. In order to switch the facility, the locomotives pull back in after setting out the pickup, the conductor throws the swich for...

Re: Lake Orion branch operation observations

As much as I hate to say it--- let it go. If GM wants rail let THEM pay for it. Not the state. We already did this once--- how many times do we install track to a customer that does not use it??? This thread is about documenting trains on the branch. There already is a thread for speculation and ru...
