Re: Freight trains to be rolling between Ypsi and Jackson

I live very close to the Michigan Central tracks in Tree City. I have not yet seen or heard any of the
reported Ypsi to Jackson trains. I hope they come through.

Re: Ann Arbor station stop signs

Is there any freight traffic on the Michigan Central line through Ann Arbor? I have not seen a freight train on that
line for almost a decade. High level platforms at a new depot in Ann Arbor should not be a problem if there are
no frieght trains.

Lake Shore and Michigan Southern routes

The original LS&MS route across Ohio was the one that traveled through Oberlin, Norwalk, Bellevue and Elmore. Their later line passed closer to Lake Erie through Sandusky and Port Clinton. When did they shift most of their through trains from the southern route to the northern one? I have an 1893 Of...

Re: Passenger service south from Lorain

Am I correct in thinking that the Lorain and West Virginia once had a depot in Oberlin but that structure was
moved to Wellington where it stands now. Thanks for the tip about the book about the Lorain, Ashland and
Southern.

Passenger service south from Lorain

Did the Lorain and West Virginia or the Lorain, Ashland and Southern ever offer passenger service? I think not. If you follow the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern line west from Oberlin to Kipton, you pass under a rail bridge. I infer that is the former Lorain and West Virginia line. However, I thin...

VIA Train to Ann Arbor - January 1, 2014

The Canadien railroads section of Trainorders reports that VIA will run a special from Toronto
to Ann Arbor for the January 1 hockey game. Can anyone confirm this? What route will this
train take to get from Toronto to the Ferry yard of the former Ann Arbor Railroad?

Michigan's Historic Depots - Recent Book

Wayne State University Press, in December, published Michael H. Hodges' Michigan's Historic Railroad Stations. It is a marvelous book describing the architectural and social significance of 31 Michigan depots. The photography is exception and the quality of the Wayne State production exceptionally h...

Amtrak Detour on Michigan Central Line

Amtrak #29 came through Ann Arbor this morning at 10:52. I believe there was a derailment on the New York Central line west of Toledo. #49 departed from Toledo about 20 minutes after #29 this morning. I do not know if #49 will also make the trek to Motown and then on to Chicago on, presumably, the M...

Re: Ann Arbor Railway - Rail America

There are now many efforts to capture natural gas in the Marcellus field that lies under much of Pennsylvania and western New York. To get that gas to the surface, I infer than much fracting sand is needed. The Ann Arbor is now shipping sand to that area. If the exploration of natural gas continues,...
