Re: Could have Conrail survived?
Conrail turned my son into a railfan, and he wishes it still was around. We used to watch CR mainly at Mound Road Yard, in Warren. Used to catch the weekend operations and after school,on the way home. The crews were really good at answering questions, and explaining why they worked the way they did...

Re: Michigan Cabooses
I am sure somebody knows about it, but there is an old GT caboose, on LITTLE MACK RD., north of Masonic-- if I remember correctly, and if it is still there.Have not been in the area for about 7 years. Was on the WEST side of the road. I want to say it was a wooden caboose, but my memory is not so go...

Re: Michigan Central Railroad Bay City Branch question
By looking it up found that it was 1873, and the last passenger train was 1964. Some of it is still in use, other sections have been removed. As of today, it stops at M59, but HESR AND LSRC still use parts of it.

And that is how to create a railfan. Engineer was cool, informative, and a CLASS act. Amtrak should be proud of this man !!

Re: Cincinnati Northern remains in Jackson
Did the old Cincinnati Northern run through FT. Wayne Indiana?? Reason I ask is used to run to DANA Axle, in Ft.Wayne, and there was a RR that ran right next to the plant-- even had a spur to Dana, and I always wondered how far north it went.

Re: Caboose on CSX train
When in grade school, used to watch alot of switching at the old GTW NOLAN YARD, on the east side of Detroit ,on Outer Drive behind the old Polish Century Club. GT used Alco switchers, with Blunt trucks, and the trains that worked at Nolan had old WOODEN cabooses, with ARCHBAR trucks. They were in p...

Re: CN Lake Orion Sub - The end finally???
I remember back when they were building/ installing the new track for this. Used to work for a large machine tool manufacturer in Warren, that had a plant in Lake Orion. Had to go up there at least twice a week, and would see all the rail construction machinery out there, to the east of Joslyn Road....

Re: New Ties along the Lake State Railroad in Holly
Now, why does that not surprise me? Retired now about 4 years. Had many driving jobs-- some good, some bad, always had an eye and ear open in case I decided to make a change. It seems that nowadays companies expect you to jump through hoops for them, but do the least they can for employees. Oh. well. .

Yes, you are correct--- wonder about the difference in the RR if Rickoff&Co were in charge from day one.

Re: New Ties along the Lake State Railroad in Holly
From what I have seen from Lake State, they are about as first class as you can get in railroading. I had my doubts when they first began, but really have proved to be a winner. New track, new customers, good service, a great paint scheme, cannot ask for much more. The only sad issue was the end of ...

Thanks, Dave. O, for the quick answer. If I remember correctly, this would have been right behind the glass plant .Never knew it was there, now I know. Too bad it's all gone now. Thanks again!!

Wye In Evart. ??
I am getting old, so forgive me--- but--- somewhere it was referenced that there used to be a WYE in Evart. Used to run up there when working, to pick up at the glass plant, and cannot remember/figure out where there was a wye, so can anyone tell me where it was? Thanks in advance!
