Re: A Future for the BO Tower
I think many potential donors/grantors will give only to a registered 501 organization. Yes, and that has been taken into consideration, while BO is not a registered non-profit both the Schoolcraft Historical Society is and has agreed to take donations on behalf of the BO Tower. On another note, do...

Re: A Future for the BO Tower
Has anyone looked into the possibility of some kind of historic preservation grant? Other than that I don't see where adequate funding would come from. Yes, I have looked into historical preservation grants but the issue that you run into is time. The tower is scheduled for demolition this December...

Re: A Future for the BO Tower
I thought I posted here before, but I guess when I hit the post button it didn't do anything. First off, like others have said, the building is not block but rather wood frame sitting on a cement slab. The siding is asbestos to the best of my knowledge and will likely be romoved before the relocatio...

Re: A Future for the BO Tower
Thanks for the update. Someone may have posted something about it, but did you contact Grand Elk at all about using a flatcar? Can't imagine that would be any cheaper than any other mover. Yes, I was able to contact Grand Elk about a flatcar. Things worked out quite nicely as Grand Elk wouldn't nor...

Re: A Future for the BO Tower
Answers to a few questions: First of all I'm going to be honest and say no, the future for the tower is not looking very good right now. But, there a few few things that come into play here that many don't know about. First off, and this is the big one, I am a Junior in high school. I don't have all...

Re: A Future for the BO Tower
The reason for having the tower located on the SW corner of the diamond is that it has some historical significance as Schoolcraft's CF tower used to sit on that spot. You can see it in the picture below:

Re: A Future for the BO Tower
Quick Update: Asbestos/lead testing is scheduled to be done around the end of June or start of July. Also planning to grab some pictures of the interior at this time. Fundraising will start sometime in the next week or two. I'll post a link when that is up and running. Glad to hear from everyone who...

Re: A Future for the BO Tower
Ben - I hadn't thought about that before and there is a parcel next to the tracks there that is currently unoccupied, but the thought with the location next to the diamond is that it holds some historical value since there was a similarly built tower located there up until the early sixties. Also, I...

Re: A Future for the BO Tower
NS3322 - I am working on a Facebook page at the moment, it doesn't have much but here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/Schoolcraft-Switch-Tower-178729423035451 Ben Higdon- I've thought about the problem of enough visitors to support the cafe part and the goal right now is not to have a train tow...

A Future for the BO Tower
Hello everyone, I'm new here on the forum but I thought to start out by sharing some information about the BO tower in Kalamazoo. First of all, the BO tower is scheduled for demolition this September, but I've been working on a plan to save it. As most of you most likely know the tower was decommiss...
